Nearly 1 in 2 (46%) received no increment at all. <\/p><p>Expectations were misaligned: 70% said their hike was lower than expected, 23% said it met expectations, and only 7% found it higher than expected.&nbsp;<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By industry: BFSI and IT trail; oil &amp; gas shows the top-end gains<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2><p>Disparities sharpen at the sector level:&nbsp;<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/bfsi-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">BFSI<\/a>: <\/strong>62% reported no hike; no one reported 20%+ raises, and the bulk stayed at &le;15%.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/it-job\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">IT<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/telecom-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Telecom<\/a>\/ISP: <\/strong>48% got no hike; raises clustered at 0&ndash;15%, with no 20%+ outcomes.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/engineering-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Engineering<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/construction-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Construction<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/real-estate-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Real Estate<\/a>: <\/strong>37% had no hike, but increases were spread across all bands, including 5% at 20%+.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/production-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Production<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/manufacturing-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Manufacturing<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/automotive-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Automotive<\/a> &amp; Ancillary: <\/strong>32% saw no hike; a broadly balanced spread with 0&ndash;10% most common and 6% at 20%+.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/oil-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Oil<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/gas-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Gas<\/a>: <\/strong>More generous at the top end: 33% had no hike, yet a notable 22% reported 20%+ increases.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By function: HR\/Admin and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/sales-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"> Sales<\/a> hit hardest; Engineering and Finance hold steadier<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2><p>Function-wise hikes mirror the sector story:&nbsp;<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/search\/hr-jobs-in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">HR<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/admin-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Admin<\/a>: <\/strong>70% reported no hike; very few mid-to-high bands.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/sales-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Sales<\/a> &amp; BD: <\/strong>75% got no hike, but a polarised tail&mdash;17% still saw 20%+ hikes.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>IT: <\/strong>41% with no hike; only 3% in the 15&ndash;20% band and none 20%+.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/marketing-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Marketing<\/a> &amp; Communications: <\/strong>58% with no hike, yet 25% reported 20%+&mdash;another polarised picture.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Engineering &amp; Production: <\/strong>More balanced: 30% no hike, with distribution across bands, including 7% at 20%+.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/finance-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Finance<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundit.my\/home\/search\/accounts-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Accounts<\/a>: <\/strong>35% no hike; representation across bands, including 6% at 20%+.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Promotions were limited<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2><p>Career progression lagged: only 28% received a promotion; 72% did not. (We do not have data on promotions without pay for MY.)&nbsp;<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fairness and trust are the real gaps<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2><p>Only <strong>29% <\/strong>felt the appraisal was <strong>fair<\/strong>; <strong>71% <\/strong>did <strong>not<\/strong>. The most requested fixes to the process underscore this:&nbsp;<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transparency on how hikes\/promotions are decided &mdash; 44%&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clearer performance metrics and goals &mdash; 35%&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More frequent feedback &mdash; 24%&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Managers trained to give constructive feedback &mdash; 23%&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stronger link between outcomes and rewards &mdash; 5%&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The bottom line<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2><p>For Malaysia, the retention risk is acute: even among those who did get hikes, dissatisfaction is high and intent to switch (98%) is near-universal. Sectors like BFSI and IT skew cautious, while oil &amp; gas and some commercial roles show polarised outcomes (many with no hike, some with very high hikes).&nbsp;<\/p><p>If employers want to hold on to talent, pay alone won&rsquo;t cut it.
