Job Description

Job Summary

This role drives financial analysis and strategic insight across upstream business segments, including joint ventures and key PSC projects. The incumbent supports sound decision-making by aligning financial planning and performance with corporate objectives, while upholding strong financial governance as a non-operating partner within the oil and gas sector.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor JV cost performance, validate partner billings, and assess the fairness and equity of shareable costs, including cost allocations, revenue sharing, and cost recovery.
  • Review Quarterly Audited Accounts (QAA) and Annual Work Program and Budget (WP&B) prepared by operators, and ensure operators compliance with Production Sharing Contracts (PSC), Joint Operating Agreements (JOA), and other applicable agreements.
  • Execute JV audits in accordance with JOA provisions with minimal supervision, including liaising with operators and JV partners and preparing clear audit reports with findings and practical recommendations; ability to lead JV audits is an advantage.
  • Support the Head of Upstream Finance in monitoring Profit & Loss (P&L) and Free Cash Flow (FCF) for assigned PSCs, proactively providing timely insights and recommendations to management to support achievement of financial targets.
  • Deliver value-added financial insights and contribute to enhancing the overall economic value of PSC assets.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders — including technical teams, auditors, and JV partners — to ensure transparent financial communication and alignment on key initiatives.
  • Support finance process improvements through ERP system enhancements (e.g., SAP modules), strengthening of internal controls, and promotion of automation to streamline accounting workflows, improve reporting accuracy, and drive operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting qualification — MIA, ACCA, CPA, or CA.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting, with significant exposure to the oil and gas or energy sector.
  • Solid command of financial reporting standards (e.g., IFRS) and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in JV audit, cost recovery review, and PSC/JOA compliance in a non-operating partner environment.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly SAP; experience with finance process automation is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a keen eye for financial detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across technical and commercial stakeholder groups.
  • Results-driven, deadline-oriented, and able to work independently under tight timelines.

Nice to Haves

  • Familiarity with Malaysia upstream-specific reporting requirements, including PSC ring-fencing, R/C cost recovery terms, and PETRONAS reporting frameworks.
  • Experience leading JV audits as the audit team lead.
  • Exposure to ERP implementation or system enhancement projects in a finance context.
  • Knowledge of upstream economics, reserves reporting, or production entitlement calculations.
