JOB OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced Backup Engineer to manage and support enterprise backup and recovery environments. You will play a key role in ensuring data protection, backup reliability, and business continuity by maintaining backup infrastructure, supporting migrations, and optimizing backup operations across enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support enterprise backup infrastructure, with a strong focus on Veritas NetBackup and Veeam Backup & Replication.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain backup and recovery solutions to ensure high availability and data integrity.
- Execute backup migration strategies and support infrastructure transformation initiatives.
- Perform backup capacity planning, throughput analysis, and storage sizing to support business growth.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance backup processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation.
- Manage and support disk-based and tape-based backup storage solutions. Experience with Dell, ExaGrid, IBM, and Quantum storage platforms is highly preferred.
- Provide day-to-day operational support, proactively troubleshoot backup issues, and reduce recurring backup failures.
- Work closely with infrastructure and network teams to validate network requirements, including firewall rules, VLANs, routing, and DWDM connectivity.
- Participate in change management and incident management processes by assessing implementation risks, supporting root cause analysis, and ensuring operational stability.
Key Qualifications
- Hands-on experience administering enterprise backup environments using Veritas NetBackup and/or Veeam Backup & Replication.
- Strong understanding of enterprise backup architecture, disaster recovery, and business continuity best practices.
- Experience with backup storage technologies, including disk and tape libraries.
- Knowledge of networking concepts relevant to backup environments, including firewalls, VLANs, routing, and storage connectivity.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
- Experience working in enterprise or data centre environments with exposure to ITIL processes such as change and incident management is an advantage.
