JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a skilled and experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain our database environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, security, and availability of our databases. You will work closely with application and infrastructure teams to support business-critical systems, implement database solutions, optimize performance, and automation engineering. You will be required to expand your knowledge and skill set to be a multi-platform DBA covering (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Netezza). Expected to take charge and lead database team in engagement with other internal team as a database subject matter expert.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Install, configure, patch and upgrade database instances
- Installation and configuration of new database instance.
- Perform hardening and operational acceptance test for commissioning.
- Ensure databases are updated and patch as per established policy and process.
- Perform database version upgrade according to lifecycle requirements, working with applications team on compatibility test.
Incident Management
- Troubleshoot and resolve incidents or errors affecting database services.
- Responsive, provide timely support for critical issues to minimize downtime and operational disruptions by attending all alerts.
- Work with database product principal to get supports for issues requiring expert analysis to resolve the issue at hand, being analytical to solve problem.
- Being available to respond to urgent issues or emergencies outside of regular working hours as per on-call roster.
Change Management
- Service delivery of change ticket requiring database team for task deployment.
- Able to work outside business hours and weekends for Change ticket deployment.
- Ensure and adhere to change deployment process and procedure.
Documentation, Paperwork and Reporting
- Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, resolutions, and database system process, manuals, inventories and configurations.
- Improve reporting via automation, so that database performance and capacity reports is beneficial to determine the database system health.
- Prepare, works on tender and procurement process paper for asset and item under database team ownership.
Compliance and Security
- Ensure databases are compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g. BNM RMIT).
- Best practices adoption for databases (e.g. CIS, STIG).
- Enforcement of database security, encryption, and role-based access controls.
Service Request
- Deliver service request tickets for BAU or Projects requirement as per established SLA and OLA.
- Improve process and procedure for services request and task required to be perform by DBA.
Continuous Improvement
- Innovate and improve current manual process into automation via engineering effort through POC, research and development.
- Expand knowledge and skill set for future proofing purpose, from traditional database administration to data platform engineer.
- Learning and development of knowledge in multiple databases of existing and latest database technology for future adoption
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Skills:
- SQL Server (added advantage: Oracle)
- Always On Availability Group HA/DR for SQL Server (added advantage: Oracle RAC with Dataguard)
- Monitor and fine tune performance of databases (indexes, I/O, design, etc.).
- Windows Server Failover Cluster
- PowerShell
- Any SQL Server database monitoring tool (added advantage: Dynatrace)
- Database access, security, backup, and recovery processes.
- Troubleshooting logic and situational response.
- Knowledge of other databases (e.g. Oracle, DB2 LUW, PostgreSQL, NoSQL) is an advantage.
- Soft skill involving stake holder management, delivery of presentation and verbal visibility in charge of database related items during discussion and meeting.
- Strong and solid technical knowledge of SQL Server database
- SQL Server on cloud using IAAS, PAAS (added advantage)
- Linux OS (added advantage)
- Database maintenance task
Preferred Qualifications & Requirement:
- Malaysian citizen
- Passed the Malay Language (including oral test) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level.
- Bachelor's degree (Honors) or master's in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or equivalent which is recognized by the Government from any local or abroad higher learning institution in related field of study or qualification in related field of study which is recognized by the Government. Minimum CGPA 3.0.
- Minimum 4 – 7 years of hands-on experience in database administration.
- Able to work outside office hours when required, during on-call standby roster.
