Job Description
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join ECTrons Malaysia and support embedded product development, customer requirement review, and New Product Introduction (NPI) coordination. The ideal candidate will work closely with automation customers, factory machine makers, ATE stakeholders, and internal engineering teams to ensure ECTrons develops embedded and industrial AI products that fit real market needs. This role combines embedded systems engineering, customer-facing technical engagement, and product-market requirement validation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Engage with customers from automation, factory machine maker, ATE, and industrial system integration domains to understand technical and workflow requirements.
* Review, clarify, and document customer requirements so they can be translated into embedded product features, system specifications, and NPI plans.
* Collaborate with ECTrons engineering teams on embedded systems involving MPU, MCU, FPGA, industrial I/O, communication interfaces, and edge AI platforms.
* Support product definition and market-fit validation for industrial automation, AI-enabled factory systems, and embedded controller products.
* Participate in NPI activities including requirement review, prototype planning, test planning, validation tracking, and feedback consolidation.
* Assist in firmware, embedded Linux, RTOS, board bring-up, peripheral validation, driver integration, and hardware/software debugging.
* Coordinate with customers and internal teams to manage technical feedback, requirement changes, risks, blockers, and delivery expectations.
* Prepare technical documents such as requirement specifications, architecture notes, test plans, validation reports, workflow diagrams, and customer review summaries.
* Support AI-powered ERP and industrial AI initiatives by connecting customer operational workflows with practical embedded and software implementation plans.
* Work with leadership to identify product gaps, feature priorities, and engineering decisions that improve product-market fit.
Requirements
Required Skills and Expertise:
Technology Stack:
* Strong foundation in embedded systems using MCU, MPU, or FPGA-based platforms.
* Programming proficiency in C, C++, and Python.
* Working knowledge in embedded Linux, RTOS platforms, firmware development, and board-level debugging.
* Understanding of industrial automation systems, factory machines, ATE, industrial I/O, or machine communication interfaces.
Core Platform Exposure - Basic Working Knowledge Required:
* Basic working knowledge of Yocto / embedded Linux build systems, including image build concepts, layers, recipes, and BSP workflow.
* Basic working knowledge of Zephyr RTOS, including device tree, Kconfig, drivers, samples, board support, and build workflow.
* Basic working knowledge of FreeRTOS concepts such as tasks, queues, timers, synchronization, and firmware architecture.
* Ability to understand board bring-up workflows for MPU, MCU, and FPGA-based systems.
* The role expects practical platform exposure and learning ability; advanced expertise can be developed through ECTrons project work.
Core Skills:
* Ability to communicate with customers, understand technical requirements, and document them clearly for engineering execution.
* Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across firmware, hardware interfaces, and system integration.
* Solid understanding of GIT version control and structured engineering workflows.
* Ability to use engineering tools such as digital multi meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, serial consoles, and debug probes.
* Ability to communicate system architecture and workflows using UML diagrams, flowcharts, block diagrams, and technical documents.
* Strong collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams across embedded, AI, ERP, hardware, and customer-facing functions.
