Job Description

Job Summary

The Engineering Director, Hardware Design is responsible for collaborating with cross-functional teams, including designers, customers, manufacturing engineers, and project leadership, to ensure robust and high-quality product development. The role involves enhancing designs through feedback from areas such as manufacturing, testing, supply chain, reliability, industrial design, and simulations. The engineer will provide full support throughout the manufacturing process for the electrical systems they have designed.

Detailed Responsibilities

Key tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design, develop, and implement technical solutions for complex projects. Participate in project planning and scheduling.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to global engineering teams.
  • Take responsibility for non-technical aspects of projects, such as team management and financial oversight.
  • Proactively plan for the team to be utilizing leading edge software and equipment, matching with the project and business needs and ensuring that they are properly funded for.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications, and potentially act as the primary point of contact for customers.
  • Analyze trade-offs in complex systems and recommend optimal solutions. Develop and execute system deployment strategies.
  • Lead the global deployment of strategic technical projects and coordinate related efforts.
  • Manage relationships with key vendors and partners.
  • Research system concepts, develop project plans, and implement them in system designs.
  • Design, modify, and implement hardware systems in line with Celestica's procedures, standards, and customer requirements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and relevant regulations.
  • Solve complex design issues and propose innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers, customers, contractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth design and manufacturing processes.
  • Recommend system modifications and optimizations based on project needs.

Team Management Requirements

  • Build and manage global, cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring alignment between team goals and project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and career development support to team members, fostering professional growth for engineers.
  • Develop and execute team workflows, optimizing project timelines and resource allocation.
  • Oversee team performance evaluations and goal-setting processes, ensuring that team members meet their responsibilities effectively.
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote cross-team cooperation and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Responsible for recruiting, training, and developing team members, ensuring the team possesses the necessary skills and capabilities to meet the challenges of complex projects.
  • Develop long-term growth plans for the team, ensuring continuous innovation and improvement capabilities.

Experience Requirements

  • 20+ years of relevant work experience with substantial expertise in project and team management.
  • Experience managing teams in a multinational environment is preferred.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master degree in a related engineering field, with a preference for electrical engineering, hardware design, or similar disciplines.
