Job Description

Business Onboarding | Annual Review | Remittance & Financial Crime Compliance

Role Overview

The KYB Senior Executive is responsible for conducting robust Know Your Business (KYB), Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (EDD) activities for business customers, remittance partners and other relevant counterparties within a cross-border remittance and financial services environment. The role will support the business throughout the customer lifecycle, from initial business onboarding and risk assessment through periodic/annual review, event-driven review and remediation.

The successful candidate should be able to understand complex business models, ownership and control structures, transaction flows and the nature of remittance relationships, while applying professional scepticism and a risk-based approach. The role requires close collaboration with Business, Operations, Compliance, Legal and other stakeholders while maintaining independent compliance judgement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business / KYB Onboarding
  • Conduct end-to-end KYB/CDD/EDD assessments for corporate customers, merchants, remittance partners, payout partners, correspondent/financial institution relationships and other relevant business counterparties.
  • Review and validate corporate documents, business registration information, licences/authorisations, ownership and control structures, constitutional documents, organisational information and other relevant supporting documents.
  • Identify and verify Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs), directors, authorised representatives and other relevant connected parties, including understanding complex ownership or control structures.
  • Understand the prospective customer's business model, products and services, source and destination of funds, expected transaction activity, geographic footprint, customer base, counterparties and anticipated remittance/payment flows.
  • Assess the customer's AML/CFT framework, including relevant policies, governance, compliance controls, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, KYC/KYB and escalation arrangements, where applicable.
  • Conduct sanctions, PEP, adverse media and other relevant screening and investigate potential matches or alerts before recommending onboarding.
  • Perform customer risk assessments and assign an appropriate risk rating based on the customer's profile, ownership, geography, products/services, transaction activity and other relevant risk factors.
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies and red flags in onboarding information and raise appropriate clarification requests, RFIs or escalation cases.
  • Prepare clear KYB assessment summaries and onboarding recommendations, including rationale for approval, conditional approval, rejection or escalation.
  • Ensure onboarding files are complete, accurate, properly documented and maintained in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Annual / Periodic Review
  • Perform annual and periodic KYB reviews based on the customer's assigned risk rating and applicable review cycle.
  • Refresh and validate corporate, ownership, management, licensing, business activity and other relevant customer information.
  • Reassess the customer's risk profile and determine whether changes in ownership, control, geography, products, transaction patterns, regulatory status or business activities require an updated risk rating.
  • Review changes in UBOs, directors, authorised persons, licences, registered addresses, business activities and other material information.
  • Conduct updated sanctions, PEP and adverse media screening and assess any newly identified risks or negative information.
  • Raise RFIs and follow up with internal stakeholders or customers/partners to obtain outstanding information and supporting documentation.
  • Document annual review findings, risk rationale, outstanding issues and recommended actions, including escalation where material risks remain unresolved.
  • Identify customers requiring enhanced monitoring, remediation, restrictions, suspension or further management review in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Remittance Partner / Financial Institution Due Diligence
  • Conduct KYB and CDD/EDD assessments on prospective and existing remittance partners, payout partners and other financial institution relationships.
  • Assess the nature of the proposed relationship, including countries involved, payment/remittance corridors, transaction flows, settlement arrangements and the roles of the parties involved.
  • Review the partner's AML/CFT programme, governance, customer due diligence framework, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring and suspicious transaction escalation arrangements, where relevant.
  • Assess regulatory status and relevant licences/authorisations and verify information against appropriate reliable sources.
  • Identify nested, indirect or other higher-risk relationship structures and escalate where additional due diligence is required.
  • Support risk-based decisions on onboarding, continuation, restrictions or enhanced controls for higher-risk partners.
  • Ongoing KYB / Event-Driven Review
  • Conduct event-driven reviews when material changes or risk triggers are identified.
  • Investigate changes such as ownership/control changes, regulatory or licensing developments, adverse media, sanctions/PEP developments, significant business model changes, unusual activity or other material risk indicators.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to remediate KYB documentation or information gaps within agreed timelines.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records throughout the relationship lifecycle.
  • Compliance, Risk & Escalation
  • Apply the company's AML/CFT policies, procedures and risk-based controls consistently during onboarding and ongoing review.
  • Exercise professional scepticism when information is incomplete, inconsistent, unverifiable or does not reasonably support the customer's stated business purpose.
  • Assist with internal and external compliance reviews, audits, regulatory requests and remediation exercises, where required.
  • Process Improvement & Stakeholder Management
  • Work closely with Business Development, Sales, Operations, Compliance, Legal and other teams to facilitate efficient and compliant onboarding.
  • Provide practical KYB guidance to business stakeholders and explain documentation or due diligence requirements clearly.
  • Identify recurring onboarding or review gaps and recommend improvements to processes, controls, checklists and workflows.
  • Participate in new products, new corridors, new business models and other business initiatives to identify KYB and financial crime risks at an early stage.
  • Support management reporting on onboarding volumes, annual review status, overdue cases, risk trends and remediation matters.
