The company is seeking an experienced Lead Buyer to take ownership of strategic procurement activities, supplier management, and supply chain execution for complex assemblies, subsystems, and critical equipment components within a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
About The Job
The Lead Buyer will be responsible for managing the procurement of complex mechanical, mechatronic, vacuum, and system-level assemblies while ensuring the highest standards of quality, delivery, cost, and supplier performance.
This role requires strong strategic sourcing capabilities, contract negotiation experience, supplier development expertise, and the ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, and external partners.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring material availability, mitigating supply chain risks, driving cost optimization initiatives, and supporting business growth objectives.
Responsibilities
- Manage procurement activities for critical and strategic commodities, including complex assemblies, subsystem components, and contract manufacturing services.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, delivery commitments, contracts, and commercial terms to achieve optimal total cost of ownership.
- Establish, develop, and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Drive supplier performance improvement initiatives across quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost metrics.
- Lead supplier escalation management and resolution of critical supply chain issues.
- Execute purchasing activities through ERP/MRP systems to support production schedules and customer commitments.
- Manage the full purchase order lifecycle, including order placement, expediting, rescheduling, cancellations, and invoice discrepancy resolution.
- Proactively identify supply constraints, shortages, and risks while developing mitigation plans.
- Coordinate material disposition and supplier corrective actions related to non-conforming materials.
- Support inventory optimization and material availability initiatives.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, and Quality teams to support production requirements and product launches.
- Drive implementation of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Facilitate alignment among stakeholders to ensure successful execution of build plans and customer deliveries.
- Provide regular procurement reports, metrics, and supply chain performance updates to management.
- Support and lead strategic sourcing projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiency, supplier performance, cost competitiveness, and operational effectiveness.
- Drive best-practice adoption within procurement and supply chain operations.
- Participate in global sourcing strategies and supplier development programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- APICS certification, CSCP, CPSM, or similar professional credentials are advantageous.
- Minimum 10–12 years of purchasing, procurement, sourcing, or supply chain experience within manufacturing or technology industries.
- Experience managing complex mechanical, electromechanical, or high-value technical commodities.
- Semiconductor, electronics, capital equipment, precision engineering, or contract manufacturing experience is highly preferred.
- Proven track record in supplier negotiations, cost reduction, and strategic sourcing.
- Strong knowledge of ERP and MRP systems, preferably SAP.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis capabilities.
- Solid understanding of procurement processes, supplier management, and supply chain best practices.
- Experience with contract negotiation and commercial agreements.
