Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) based in Penang, Malaysia. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of the patient centre and laboratory while ensuring compliance with CAP and MS ISO 15189 standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for walk-in patients while ensuring accurate patient identification and sample labeling.
- Process, sort, verify, and prepare specimens in accordance with laboratory SOPs and quality requirements.
- Accurately perform Laboratory Information System (LIS) data entry, case verification, and documentation.
- Prepare, manifest, and coordinate specimens dispatch to referral laboratories and headquarters.
- Attend to patient enquiries, clinician requests, and telephone communications professionally.
- Operate the patient registration and POS payment system, including preparation of daily cash summary reports.
- Monitor laboratory equipment, fridge/freezer temperatures, maintenance records, and daily quality documentation.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, quality management systems, and biosafety procedures.
- Upload and maintain operational reports and support continuous workflow improvement.
- Participate in shift handover, communicate pending cases, and maintain accurate operational records.
- Collaborate with laboratory, courier, and clinical teams to ensure efficient workflow and turnaround time.
Requirements
- Degree in Medical Lab Technology, Biomedical Science, or a field relevant to working in a medical lab.
- Fresh grads are welcome to apply, but relevant work experience and hands-on laboratory skills will be advantageous.
- Able to work on rotational shifts.
