The Manufacturing Engineering team will be part of Lam Manufacturing Malaysia Operations, reporting into Global Operations. This function will partner with the other Operations team in Malaysia such as Manufacturing, Quality, Order Fulfilment, Logistics to deliver Operations Excellence, driving high quality, productivity and cost-effective performance in the safest environment.
The impact you'll make
In this position, as Manufacturing Engineering Manager your will leads 24×7 manufacturing engineering sustaining operations to ensure stable production, robust test capability, and rapid issue resolution. Manages a multi‑shift team of Shift Manufacturing Engineers, Engineering Test Technicians (ETT), Test Fixture Technicians, and Supervisors. Acts as primary escalation owner for manufacturing, test, and fixture issues while driving safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) performance.
You will work across organizational functions to resolve technical, quality and production challenges, as well as opportunity to develop excellence in product design and manufacturing. The candidate should have good experience in semiconductor fab, very familiar with capital equipment and challenges.
What You'll Do
- Own sustaining engineering execution for assembly, test, and fixture operations across all shifts.
- Lead and develop Shift Manufacturing Engineer, Engineering Test Technician, and Engineering Supervisor teams; ensure coverage, capability, and performance.
- Serve as escalation owner for complex assembly/test/fixture issues; drive RCCA, containment, and permanent corrective actions (8D).
- Ensure test systems and fixtures are reliable, available, and production‑ready to protect output and quality.
- Drive operational excellence aligned to SQDC, including yield, cycle time, uptime, and cost improvement.
- Enforce compliance with safety, RBA working‑hours, manufacturing procedures, and audit requirements.
- Partner with Operations, Test Engineering, Quality, Facilities, and Global teams to support ramp, NPI, and sustaining readiness.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives for productivity, reliability, and standardization.
- Requires strong and balanced background in engineering, people management and manufacturing.
- Provide sustaining excellence strategy in Wafer Fabrication Equipment through lean manufacturing environment.
Who We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or other related courses.
- 8+ years of related experience and at least 8+ years in engineering and/or manufacturing management.
- Capable to read mechanical drawings and schematic diagram.
- Experience leading and scaling teams of design, systems, and/or manufacturing engineers in a high-customization production environment.
- Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively across organizational and functional boundaries in a large-sized organization.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and people management skills.
- Strong analytical skills, including statistical analysis.
- Strong structured problem-solving skills and understanding of root cause analysis.
- Familiar with virtual manufacturing and model-based-design (MBD) techniques.
- Result oriented with ability to manage and scale an organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge in 3D design software such as NX Creo, Solidworks and Teamcenter will be added advantage.
- Strong knowledge in SAP systems and applications will be added advantage.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; the ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations.
- Familiarity with virtual manufacturing and model-based-design (MBD) techniques.
- Willingness to travel in support of global responsibility set (up to 30%, occasional international).

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. On-site Flex you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. Virtual Flex you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
