Position: NPD Intern (2 Placements)

Location: Lactalis Mainland Dairy (formerly known as Fonterra Brands Malaysia) 23, Jalan Delima 1/1, Subang Hi-Tech Industrial Park, 40300, Subang Jaya, Selangor
Work Arrangement: 5 days onsite
About the role:
We are looking for 2 NPD Interns to join our New Product Development team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in product innovation, food safety, and quality within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
New product development
- Support the prototype development, trial and testing of new products for nutritional powder, cultured and UHT.
- Conduct the shelf-life test of nutritional powder, cultured, UHT and dairy food trial and commercial samples.
- Conduct the shelf-life test of new packaging for nutritional powder, cultured, UHT and dairy food trial and compile results.
- Coordinate to send prototype, trial and commercial samples to the internal and external lab for analysis.
- Document and analyze data from experiments, stability studies, and product evaluations.
- Ensure the freshness of ingredient used in the NPD lab for prototype development.
- Support the sensory evaluation activities of new and renovated products for nutritional powder, cultured, UHT and dairy food.
Health & Safety Accountabilities – Individual Contributor
- The intern will identify and report all hazards and incidents.
- The intern will participate fully in the Health & Safety improvement process.
- The intern will co-operate fully in any injury management process to ensure full participation in the workforce after cleared fit for duties by a registered medical practitioner.
Food Safety and Quality
- The intern will be familiar with and comply with all aspects of Fonterra's food quality systems, policies and processes.
- The intern will identify and report all food safety and/or food quality hazards or breaches.
- The intern will report any instance of suspected and/or confirmed contagious/infectious diseases, which has the potential to implicate food safety, including any instance of vomiting, diarrhea, or blood borne infections. This includes, but is not limited to, any local regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in food science, or Food Technology (or closely related discipline).
- Demonstrated understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems principles.
- Demonstrated understanding of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) methodology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with data analysis tools is an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Desirable
- Practical exposure to food manufacturing, laboratory, or production environments.
- Experience with product development software or ERP/quality management systems.
- Knowledge of relevant food safety regulations and standards (e.g., NZ Food Standards, Codex Alimentarius).
- Participation in university food science projects, product development competitions, or industry placements.
