Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Controller to support our Malaysia Dam & Hydro team in delivering effective project control, financial reporting, and project administration. The successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring project financial performance, supporting forecasting and reporting activities, and ensuring compliance with SMEC's Business Management System (BMS), Quality Management System (QMS), and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) requirements.
This position requires a proactive individual who can work independently while collaborating closely with project managers and multidisciplinary project teams.
Job Description
- Assist in project cost control activities, including monitoring project budgets, Work in Progress (WIP), Estimate at Completion (EAC), Estimate to Complete (ETC), project profitability, and outstanding debtors.
- Set up and maintain project records and financial information in the system in accordance with SMEC policies and internal approval processes.
- Prepare and maintain project financial data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Support the preparation and review of intercompany, sub-consultancy, and joint venture agreements.
- Assist in monthly project reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and re-planning activities.
- Prepare client invoices and supporting documentation based on project progress, monitor payment status, and follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Coordinate with project team members to ensure weekly timesheet submissions are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready project documentation in compliance with BMS, QMS, and OH&S requirements.
- Identify and escalate project financial issues to the appropriate stakeholders when required.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, Engineering or other relevant disciplines.
- Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in project controls, project finance, or project-based consultancy environments.
- Experience supporting engineering, infrastructure, construction, or consulting projects is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience using SAP systems is preferred.

- Strong analytical and financial management skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial/project management systems.
- Good understanding of project accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Excellent organisational, coordination, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced project environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with cross-functional teams.
