Job Description

Position: Project Engineer (contractual basis)

Duration: 12 months

Location: Shah Alam

Schedule: Mon - Fri, 9AM to 6PM

Target Salary: RM 5,000 – RM 6,000 per month

Industrial: Food Manufacturing or confectionery (direct experience in chocolate processing equipment and utilities is highly preferred)

Key Qualification: 3 - 5 years experience in managing line installations, CAPEX projects, machinery commissioning, and familiar with local regulatory (HACCP, Halal, DOSH, etc.)

Position Overview

The Project Engineer will be responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing technical and capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects within our chocolate and confectionery processing plant. This includes equipment upgrades, processing line expansions, utility installations, and process optimization.

The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience in chocolate manufacturing equipment (conching, tempering, moulding, enrobing, packing) and ensures all projects meet local food safety standard (Halal, HACCP, GMP) and industrial regulations (DOSH, DOE).

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution

  • Plan, schedule, and execute plant CAPEX projects from initiation through commissioning and handover.
  • Monitor project timelines, progress, and financial budgets to ensure cost-effective delivery.
  • Prepare clear technical specifications, scope of work , and tender documentation for contractors and equipment vendors.

Chocolate Processing & Packaging Systems

  • Manage the installation, integration, and continuous improvement of chocolate processing machinery, including:
  • Bulk raw material handling, refining, conching, and temperature-controlled storage tanks
  • Continuous chocolate tempering machines, enrobing units, cooling tunnels, and moulding lines
  • Primary and secondary high-speed packaging equipment (flow wrapping, foil wrapping, box cartoners)
  • Oversee critical utility systems relevant to chocolate production, such as chilled water loops, dehumidification units, steam boilers, and compressed air systems.

Food Safety, Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure all engineering modifications and machinery layouts comply with GMP, HACCP, and Halal certification standards.
  • Coordinate with local authorities and agencies (DOSH/JKKP, DOE, etc.) for machinery registration, plant safety approvals, and utility compliance.

Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with internal cross-functional teams (Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Safety, Procurement, Human Resource, etc.).
  • Supervise external contractors, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and civil/mechanical/electrical installers during site work.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for newly procured equipment.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering, Process/Chemical Engineering, or Food Engineering.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of proven project engineering experience in food manufacturing, with direct exposure to confectionery or chocolate processing lines.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of chocolate/confectionery processing (tempering curves, crystal structure stability, moisture control).
  • Proficient in reading P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics.
  • Hands-on familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD) and project tools (MS Project).
  • Knowledge of PLC automation systems (Siemens, Omron, Allen-Bradley) used in automated packaging and process lines.

Soft Skills & Certifications

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and vendor management skills.
  • Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia (Mandarin is an added advantage for dealing with regional OEMs).
