Responsibilities
Accounting & Taxation
- Prepare and review financial statements.
- Prepare and review individual, company, trust and partnership tax returns.
- Prepare and review BAS and GST compliance work.
- Assist with year-end tax planning and compliance matters.
- Support Division 7A and other Australian taxation matters.
- Review bookkeeping, payroll and general accounting work.
- Prepare and review workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Assist with ATO correspondence and compliance requirements.
Client Service & Workflow Management
- Manage workflow and job progression.
- Follow up outstanding client information requests.
- Monitor deadlines and manage work priorities.
- Assist Australian team members with client queries.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development
- Review work completed by junior team members.
- Provide coaching and mentoring support.
- Promote accuracy, accountability and quality standards.
- Help establish best-practice workflows and procedures.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Work extensively with Xero and cloud accounting platforms.
- Adopt new technologies, automation tools and AI-driven workflows.
- Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Support VBA's evolving technology-enabled operating model.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- 5+ years accounting experience.
- Strong experience preparing financial statements and tax returns.
- Understanding of Australian accounting and taxation requirements.
- Experience with BAS, GST and year-end compliance.
- Strong knowledge of Xero and cloud accounting systems.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes.
- Strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
Highly Desirable
- Previous experience working with Australian accounting firms.
- Experience with Australian outsourcing providers.
- SMSF experience.
- Experience reviewing and supervising staff.
- Exposure to AI, automation and workflow technologies.
