About The Role
We are looking for looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Drafter to join our design team in Australia based in Malaysia.
This is a senior, hands-on technical role for a professional who can deliver complex electrical drafting packages independently, with minimal supervision, across multiple concurrent projects. You'll work as part of an integrated design team, collaborating closely with our Australian project offices and gaining direct exposure to Australian-standard engineering practices, international project scopes, and cross-border teams. This is a production engineering role. What You'll Do Key Responsibility
- Deliver complex electrical design and drafting packages independently
- Meet deliverable timelines.
- Maintain qualitative standards.
- Produce SLDs, schematics, termination and wiring diagrams for complex projects
- Interpret PLC I/O spreadsheets, equipment schedules and project specifications
- Coordinate multi-discipline drawing packages across project teams
- Maintain and develop drawing register and document control systems
Electrical Design Deliverables
- Full design package for complex projects: SLDs, schematics, terminations, wiring
- Detailed cable schedules and pull sheets
- I/O schedules and equipment lists
- Interpretation of client specifications and quality procedures
- Design coordination across electrical, instrumentation and civil/structural disciplines
- Design reviews and checking of junior outputs
What We're Looking For Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or Electrical Design qualifications.
- Electrical Trades Qualifications.
- 8 - 10 years post graduate electrical drafting experience - preference for experience gained with international engineering consulting co. (Jacob, Worley, Wood etc)
- Electrical Drafting with consulting company working in power, utilities, infrastructure, chemical or petro chemicals processing.
- Electrical drafting with infrastructure construction company.
- Electrical drafting with heavy industrial company or utility.
Technical Skills — Core CAD Skills
- AutoCAD - advanced proficiency; 2D (mandatory)
- AutoCAD 3D Design and Modelling (a plus)
- Understanding and ability to interpret project specification documents and client quality procedures.
- Document management and drawing control software
Soft Skills Required
- Advanced problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent English language skills - verbal and written
- Effective communication with engineers and designers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on projects delivered by international engineering consultancies (e.g. Jacobs, Worley, Wood, or similar)
- Background in power, utilities, infrastructure, chemical or petrochemical processing sectors
- Familiarity with Australian project documentation and drafting conventions
What Strong Candidates Demonstrates
- Can walk through a complex SLD or schematic package they delivered end-to-end, including how a multi-discipline clash was resolved
- Can describe how they interpreted an ambiguous or incomplete client specification and closed the gap
- Can explain how they maintained drawing register/revision control accuracy across multiple concurrent projects
- Can give an example of catching an error in an I/O schedule or equipment list before it reached construction
