Job Description

Your Contribution

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the planning, development, optimization, and maintenance of firmware for existing and new products in the field of laboratory automation and robotics. You will be developing embedded software for Tecan's next-generation automated liquid handling and life sciences instrumentation platforms, working in close collaboration with R&D teams in Switzerland and the US.

Your responsibilities span the entire development lifecycle, from initial idea through concept, specification, design, and coding, including documentation, ongoing maintenance, and root cause analysis when needed. You will work within a team and in close collaboration with other disciplines such as software, electronics, mechanics, and motion control.

Your Profile

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mechatronics
  2. Proven practical experience as an Embedded Software Engineer in R&D / new product development, preferably in MedTech, life sciences instrumentation, robotics, industrial automation, or a comparable regulated or safety-critical industry
  3. Demonstrated experience taking firmware from concept and prototype through to design transfer and series production, not limited to firmware maintenance, validation testing, or porting work on existing products
  4. Solid programming skills in C++, with C and C# experience an advantage
  5. Hands-on experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and fieldbus communication (e.g. CAN, EtherCAT, or similar)
  6. Experience in control systems and drive technology is an advantage
  7. Experience in signal analysis and signal processing is an advantage
  8. Familiarity with ISO 13485 / IEC 62304 software lifecycle processes is a plus
  9. A passion for sharing knowledge and mentoring colleagues
  10. Self-motivated, with a strong sense of quality and ownership
  11. Very good written and spoken English

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Your contribution

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and test embedded software modules and solutions for liquid handling and robotic applications. You will be involved in planning and developing software concepts, ensuring software quality, and troubleshooting. Your role will require interdisciplinary cooperation with electronics, software, and mechanics teams.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan, develop, and implement software concepts using modern C++ for embedded systems.
  2. Ensure software quality by applying latest tools and through systematic testing and error correction.
  3. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate software
  4. Evaluate new tools and methods and define coding standards and guidelines.
  5. Ensure compliance with processes, SOPs, and regulatory standards (IEC 62304, ISO 13485).

Your background

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical discipline (e.g. Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering)
  2. Strong passion for embedded software engineering
  3. At least 5 years of professional experience in embedded software development
  4. Proven experience with state-of-the-art software development using C++ 20
  5. Experience working with real-time operating systems (RTOS), preferably POSIX-based operating systems
  6. Experience with communication interfaces and protocols such as SPI, CAN and QUIC and Ethernet-based protocols (e.g. UDP)
  7. Familiarity with technologies and tools such as Protobuf, CMake, Tracealyzer and Docker is a plus
  8. Experience in sensing technologies and motor control systems is a plus
  9. Strong sense of ownership with the motivation to take responsibility and drive projects to successful completion
  10. Good written and spoken English skills German language skills is a plus
