About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Design & Build team for a mission-critical Data Centre project in Cyberjaya. This role is responsible for leading the mechanical engineering scope from design development through construction, testing & commissioning, and final project handover.
The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of critical mechanical systems, extensive site execution experience, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced EPC/Main Contractor environment.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Management
- Lead the mechanical engineering scope throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with client requirements, project specifications, local regulations, and international standards.
- Review mechanical design submissions, calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with consultants, design partners, subcontractors, and equipment vendors to ensure design integration and constructability.
- Participate in design coordination meetings, value engineering workshops, and technical reviews.
- Resolve engineering issues during design, procurement, and construction phases.
Project Delivery
- Manage and oversee the installation of mechanical systems in accordance with approved designs, project schedules, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate interfaces between mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, and architectural disciplines.
- Monitor construction progress and provide technical support to the site team.
- Identify engineering risks and develop practical mitigation measures.
- Review technical submissions, shop drawings, material approvals, and method statements.

- In-Row Cooling Systems
- Direct Expansion (DX) Cooling Systems
- Precision Air Conditioning
- Pumps and Hydronic Systems
- HVAC and Ventilation Systems
- Pressurisation Systems
- Mechanical Pipework and Valves
- Fuel Storage and Distribution Systems
- Building Management System (BMS) interfaces
- Water Leak Detection Systems
Construction Management
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure installations comply with engineering standards and project specifications.
- Coordinate mechanical subcontractors to achieve programme milestones.
- Review Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, and engineering change requests.
- Ensure mechanical works are executed safely and in compliance with project quality standards.
- Support project planning and sequencing of mechanical activities.
Testing & Commissioning
- Develop and review mechanical Testing & Commissioning (T&C) procedures.
- Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities with clients, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Witness equipment testing, balancing, integrated systems testing (IST), and performance validation.
- Ensure all mechanical systems achieve contractual performance requirements before project handover.
- Review as-built documentation, operation manuals, and commissioning reports.
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Support procurement by reviewing technical specifications and evaluating supplier and subcontractor proposals.
- Coordinate equipment delivery schedules and factory acceptance testing (FAT), where applicable.
- Manage vendor technical clarifications throughout project execution.
Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with clients, consultants, authorities, utility providers, and internal project teams.
- Attend technical coordination meetings and provide engineering guidance.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the project team.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Registered Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
- Professional Engineer (PEng) registration is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 8–12 years of mechanical engineering experience.
- At least 5 years delivering Design & Build or EPC construction projects.
- Proven experience on Data Centre, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, industrial, or other mission-critical facilities.
- Experience working for a Main Contractor or EPC contractor is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction, commissioning, and project delivery.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of chilled water cooling systems and critical HVAC infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Data Centre cooling technologies, redundancy concepts, and energy-efficient system design.
- Ability to review HVAC calculations, equipment schedules, P&IDs, and mechanical layouts.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and BIM coordination.
- Understanding of Malaysian Standards, ASHRAE, SMACNA, CIBSE, and relevant international codes.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and integrated control systems.

Preferred Experience
- Experience delivering hyperscale or colocation Data Centres.
- Exposure to projects for global technology clients such as Microsoft, AWS, Google, Oracle, or Equinix.
- Experience managing mechanical engineering packages on projects valued above MYR100 million.
- Knowledge of sustainable cooling solutions, energy optimisation, and Green Building Index (GBI) or LEED requirements.
- Experience leading integrated systems testing (IST) and mission-critical commissioning activities.
