About the Role

The Site Safety Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and implementing health, safety, and environmental practices throughout the data centre construction project. The role ensures that construction activities are carried out safely, in compliance with applicable legislation, project requirements, approved risk assessments, method statements, and site safety procedures. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Manager, Site Management, Engineers, Contractors, Subcontractors, and Workers to identify and control workplace hazards, promote safe working practices, and ensure that safety requirements are maintained throughout all stages of construction.

Responsibilities

  • Site Safety Management
  • Oversee day-to-day health and safety activities across the construction site.
  • Ensure all construction activities comply with applicable occupational safety and health legislation, project requirements, and site safety procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with approved risk assessments, method statements, safe work procedures, and permit-to-work requirements.
  • Conduct regular site safety inspections and identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, hazards, and potential risks.
  • Recommend and implement appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
  • Stop or escalate unsafe work where there is an immediate risk to personnel, property, or project operations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture among employees, contractors, subcontractors, and site personnel.
  • Risk Assessment & Work Control
  • Review and monitor Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Safe Work Procedures, and Job Safety Analyses.
  • Ensure appropriate control measures are implemented before high-risk activities commence.
  • Monitor high-risk construction activities including lifting operations, working at height, hot works, confined spaces, excavation, temporary works, electrical works, and MEP installation activities.
  • Ensure site teams comply with established control measures throughout execution.
  • Monitor changes in site conditions and ensure risk assessments are reviewed and updated when required.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of Permit-to-Work systems.
  • Permit to Work
  • Coordinate and monitor Permit-to-Work requirements for relevant construction activities.
  • Verify that required permits, risk assessments, method statements, and supporting documentation are in place before work begins.
  • Ensure work activities are properly authorised and controlled.
  • Coordinate with construction teams to prevent safety-related delays or interruptions to project activities.
  • Monitor permit compliance during site execution and ensure permits are properly closed upon completion of work.
  • Site Inspection & Compliance
  • Conduct routine and scheduled safety inspections, audits, and site walkdowns.
  • Monitor housekeeping, access and egress, barricading, signage, PPE, temporary works, storage, and general site conditions.
  • Inspect construction areas, plant, equipment, tools, lifting equipment, scaffolding, access systems, and other relevant safety controls.
  • Record safety observations, non-conformances, and corrective actions.
  • Follow up outstanding safety actions and ensure timely closure.
  • Maintain appropriate safety records and inspection documentation.
  • Safety Briefings & Training
  • Conduct site safety inductions for employees, contractors, subcontractors, and visitors.
  • Deliver toolbox meetings, safety briefings, awareness sessions, and targeted safety training.
  • Communicate project-specific hazards and required control measures to site teams.
  • Promote safe work practices and encourage workers to report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Support safety campaigns and initiatives throughout the project.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Response
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure emergency equipment, first-aid facilities, fire protection equipment, and emergency access routes are available and properly maintained.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities with the project team and relevant contractors.
  • Organise and participate in emergency drills, including fire, medical emergency, evacuation, and other relevant scenarios.
  • Ensure workers understand emergency procedures, evacuation routes, muster points, and reporting requirements.
  • Provide immediate safety support and coordination during emergency situations.
  • Incident & Accident Investigation
  • Lead or support investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and safety-related events.
  • Gather relevant information, witness statements, photographs, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify immediate, underlying, and root causes of incidents.
  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor implementation and closure of corrective actions.
  • Prepare accurate incident investigation reports and maintain appropriate records.
  • Support statutory and client reporting requirements where applicable.
  • Contractor & Subcontractor Management
  • Monitor the safety performance of contractors and subcontractors working on the project.
  • Ensure contractors comply with project safety requirements and approved safe work procedures.
  • Participate in contractor safety meetings and performance reviews.
  • Review contractor safety documentation and competency requirements where applicable.
  • Identify recurring safety issues and work with contractors to implement corrective measures.
  • Promote consistent safety standards across all project work packages.
