Job Description

Summary

The PW4 Technician is responsible for electrical installation, testing, commissioning,

troubleshooting, and maintenance works for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The role requires

a valid Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) PW4 competency certificate and practical experience in solar

PV installation, with strong emphasis on electrical safety, workmanship quality, and regulatory

compliance.

Key Responsibilities

● Carry out electrical installation works for solar PV systems, including AC and DC cabling, isolators, distribution boards, protection devices, earthing, and related electrical components.

● Perform installation and termination of solar PV panels, inverters, combiner boxes, switchboards, meters, and associated equipment.

● Conduct cable pulling, cable routing, termination, testing, labelling, and verification according to approved drawings and specifications.

● Perform electrical testing and commissioning, including insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, earthing, voltage, and other required tests.

● Assist in inverter configuration, system start-up, commissioning, and verification of solar PV system performance.

● Carry out troubleshooting and rectification of electrical faults involving solar PV systems and associated electrical installations.

● Perform preventive and corrective maintenance for solar PV installations.

● Read and interpret single-line diagrams (SLD), electrical drawings, layout drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.

● Ensure all electrical works comply with Suruhanjaya Tenaga requirements, Electricity Supply Act and Regulations, relevant Malaysian Standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.

● Ensure proper implementation of electrical isolation and safe working procedures,including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) where applicable.

● Conduct site inspections and identify electrical defects, installation issues, and safety risks.

● Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, Site Supervisors, subcontractors, and other technical personnel during installation and commissioning activities.

● Maintain proper records of testing, commissioning, maintenance, defects, and rectification works.

● Ensure tools, test equipment, PPE, and electrical equipment are properly maintained and used safely.

● Support site mobilisation and attend project sites as required.

● Perform other electrical and solar-related technical duties assigned by the Project Manager or Engineer. Qualifications & Requirements

● Minimum SPM/SKM/Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation or equivalent.

● Must possess a valid PW4 competency certificate issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).

● Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on electrical installation experience, preferably involving solar PV projects.

● Practical experience in rooftop and/or ground-mounted solar PV installation is highly preferred.

● Experience with solar inverters, AC/DC electrical systems, protection systems, earthing, DBs and associated PV equipment.

● Able to understand electrical drawings, SLDs and technical documentation.

● Familiar with electrical testing equipment such as multimeters, insulation resistance testers and earth testers.

● Knowledge of electrical and solar installation safety requirements.

● Comfortable working at heights and outdoor project sites where required.

● Possess good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

● Able to work independently as well as within a project team.

● Willing to travel and be deployed to project sites when required.

● Possession of CIDB Green Card and relevant Working at Height/Safety certifications will be an added advantage.
