Own the client, not just the NAV

A fund services group operating across multiple jurisdictions is building out its Kuala Lumpur team, and this is the seat at the front of it.

Most fund accounting roles in this market are production seats. You close the NAV, you pass it up for review, and the client never hears your name. This one runs the other way. You would carry your own portfolio of alternative fund clients as their primary point of contact, own what goes out the door, and be the person they call when something needs fixing.

The team is growing and the remit grows with it. For the right person there is room to grow into leading the office over time, and that is why the bar on client handling sits higher than the title suggests.

What you would actually be doing

You sit across two things at once, the delivery and the relationship.

On delivery, you oversee and review NAV calculations, investor capital account statements, capital call and distribution notices, management fee and carried interest calculations, and the financial statements that go with them. You handle the lifecycle events too, from onboarding and fund launches through to transitions, closings, restructurings, liquidations and investor transfers. Where AML/KYC, FATCA and CRS obligations touch your clients, you make sure they are met, and you are the one the auditors come to.

On the relationship, you run the service reviews, you take the escalations, and you look for the openings where the group can do more for a client than it does today.

You also carry the team. Fund Accountants and Senior Fund Accountants sit under you for review and coaching, and you have a say in how the work is planned and resourced.

What makes you a fit

You have spent roughly five to eight years in fund accounting, fund administration, corporate services or asset management. A fund administrator, CSP, trust company or alternative investment environment is the most natural fit, though a Big Four background works if you have carried real client ownership alongside the technical work.

You have reviewed and signed off, not just prepared. If you can talk someone through a quarter-end you owned end to end, including where the errors usually surfaced, you are the profile.

You are fluent in Mandarin, written and spoken. This is not a preference on this role. A good part of the client base needs it, and it has already been the deciding factor on candidates who were otherwise strong.

You are a Malaysian resident and do not need visa sponsorship.

You have coached and reviewed junior fund accountants, and you are looking for a step up rather than a sideways move. This seat sits at manager level today with genuine room to grow into leading the office, so the appetite to take on more over time matters as much as the technical grounding.

A professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, ICAEW or CIMA is welcome, but it is not a gate.
