Position Overview
The 3D Artist will lead the transformation of Selkirk Sport's product visualization pipeline, shifting our production model from traditional photography to a digital twin asset workflow. This role is responsible for taking raw engineering data and turning it into indistinguishable-from-reality marketing assets for our hard goods (paddles) and soft goods (bags).
The ideal candidate is a technical artist who understands the intersection of engineering accuracy and advertising aesthetics. You will own the entire 3D lifecyclefrom ingesting R&D CAD files to delivering final high-res renders for our Product Detail Pages (PDP). By bringing this capability in-house, you will grant our creative team the ability to execute unlimited revisions, bypass shipping delays for samples, and iterate design changes on the fly.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Visualization (The Digital Twin Pipeline)
- CAD to PDP Conversion: Serve as the primary bridge between R&D and Marketing. Ingest raw CAD files from the engineering team and re-topology/texture them into photorealistic 3D assets.
- PDP Image Creation: Generate high quality, max resolution images for use on our Shopify site for Product Description Pages, product storytelling, and editorial content creation.
- Hard & Soft Goods Rendering: Create Master 3D models for all hard goods (paddles) and soft goods (bags) to generate high-fidelity Product Detail Page (PDP) images.
- Material Accuracy: expertly replicate complex texturescarbon fiber faces, polymer cores, and fabric stitchingensuring the digital render matches the physical product perfectly.
Animation & Motion Assets
- Generative AI Workflows: Leverage generative AI tools and processes to accelerate packaging concept development, streamline design iterations, and enhance overall creative quality and production efficiency.
- 360 & Technical Video: Produce 360-degree rotating product videos and technical exploded view animations that explain the technology inside our paddles.
- Campaign Assets: Generate high-impact 3D animations for use in video commercials, web headers, and digital ad applications.
- Performance Creative Support: Provide modular 3D assets to the performance marketing team, allowing for rapid testing of different angles and lighting setups without new photoshoots.
Asset Management & Workflow Optimization
- Build and maintain an organized library of 3D assets, materials, and environments via our Digital Asset Management tool, that can be leveraged across all marketing channels.
- Utilize systems to organize, upload, and meta-tag our brand content to optimize search functionality.
- Reduce our reliance on physical samples by establishing a workflow where assets can be created before manufacturing is complete, significantly speeding up our time-to-market.
- Actively manage end-to-end content workflows and processes, ensuring image creation moves smoothly from start to finish.
- Utilize project management tools to track task progress, manage timelines, and communicate updates to cross-functional partners.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and proactively recommend and implement process refinements to improve team efficiency, reduce time-to-market, and elevate output quality.
- Ensure all final deliverables meet brand standards and technical manufacturing specifications for their intended use.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in 3D Product Visualization, CGI, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Cinema 4D, Redshift, Blender, Houdini (or equivalent high-end rendering engines like Octane/V-Ray).
- Expert texturing skills (Substance Painter/Designer) with a sharp eye for photorealism in lighting and composition.
- Experience with soft body modeling (for bags/apparel) and hard surface modeling (for paddles/footwear/equipment).
- English Proficiency: Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with US-based teams.
- Technical Pipeline Knowledge: Ability to optimize CAD data (STEP/IGES) for rendering without losing geometric accuracy.
- Experience leveraging generative AI tools + processes to optimize efficiency and work quality.
Preferred:
- Experience in the sports equipment, consumer electronics, or automotive industries.
- Ability to do lightweight compositing/post-production in After Effects or Photoshop.
- Interest in pickleballor willingness to learn the product nuances that matter to players.
- Experience working remotely with international teams.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Stationary Positions & Movement: Physically active role requiring the ability to stand, move about, and maintain high energy for extended periods during shoots and events. Must be able to travel frequently and independently between various on-location shoot sites and tournaments.
- Lifting & Carrying: Ability to move or transport photography equipment, lighting gear, and studio samples weighing up to 40 lbs, utilizing assistance or equipment as needed.
- Pushing & Pulling: Ability to push or pull rolling gear cases, lighting stands, or equipment carts weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Manual Dexterity: Requires precise manual dexterity for handling and adjusting sensitive photography equipment, as well as constant use of hands and fingers for detailed digital retouching and computer-based post-production.
- Visual Acuity: Required to have high-level visual acuity and color vision to perform activities such as lighting setup, critical focus adjustment, detailed retouching, and color correction across various media.
- Work Environment: Primarily an on-site professional setting requiring movement between a studio environment and various on-location shoot sites (e.g., tournaments and brand events). Requires significant professional flexibility to accommodate evenings, weekends, and varying environmental conditions during event coverage.
- Working Hours: Ability to align working hours with the US Pacific time zone for key meetings.
Travel & Schedule
- Travel: Regular travel to tournaments, brand events, and on-location shoots is required to capture live-action and editorial content.
- Schedule: Generally follows standard business hours but requires significant professional flexibility, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate event coverage and production deadlines.
