Role overview

The Accounting Controller is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role manages the general ledger, financial close process, internal controls, and statutory/tax compliance, while acting as a key business partner to senior management on financial matters.

Key Responsibilities

1) Financial Reporting & Close

  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements
  • Prepare and review consolidated financial reports in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g. MFRS/IFRS)
  • Ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Provide variance analysis and commentary on financial performance to management

2) Accounting Operations

  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets
  • Oversee cash flow management, treasury operations, and bank reconciliations
  • Ensure proper maintenance of accounting records and supporting documentation

3) Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements (e.g. corporate tax, SST/GST, withholding tax)
  • Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy of financial data
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, and regulatory bodies to support audits and statutory filings
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, group accounting standards, and relevant local regulations

4) Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide insights to management

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent
  • Minimum 6-7 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, with at least 3 years in a managerial/supervisory capacity
  • Solid PQE in a managerial/controller capacity, ideally in manufacturing, MNC environment
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle) preferred
