An Accounts Receivable (AR) Intern supports the finance department by managing incoming payments, preparing invoices, and reconciling customer accounts. Key duties include applying cash receipts, resolving billing discrepancies, and assisting with month-end closing. This role requires strong attention to detail, Excel proficiency, and pursuing an accounting/finance degree.
Core Responsibilities
- Invoice Generation: Prepare and issue customer invoices accurately.
- Cash Application: Record and post customer payments (checks, credit cards, bank transfers) to the ERP system.
- Reconciliation: Reconcile AR sub-ledger to the general ledger and perform bank reconciliations.
- Collections Support: Assist in monitoring aging reports and follow up with customers on overdue payments via email/phone.
- Discrepancy Resolution: Investigate payment discrepancies, short payments, or deductions based on remittance advice.
- Documentation: Maintain and update customer files, including credit notes and payment records.
- Month-End Close: Support the finance team with month-end reporting and reconciliation activities.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel, including VLOOKUPs/pivot tables).
- Software Familiarity: Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is preferred.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and good communication skills.
- Availability: Ability to commit to a full-time or part-time internship, often for 4–6 months.
