Sunrise Group is the long-term distributor of Yonex and other leading sports brands across Southeast Asia. We're looking for an Art Director to lead visual execution across our brands and markets throughout Asia such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and others.
You'll shape how our brands show up across product photography, e-commerce, catalogues, retail, packaging, and social. You'll work directly with senior leadership and you'll lead a small in-house design team plus a network of external creative partners across the region.
The role is based in Kuala Lumpur and offers regional travel, a meaningful budget, and the autonomy to build a creative function from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Lead visual identity and brand guideline development across our brand portfolio
- Art-direct all product, lifestyle, and campaign photography — including casting input, location scouting, on-set direction, and post-production oversight
- Develop key visuals and creative concepts for hero product launches, seasonal campaigns, and major retail moments
- Own the visual execution of catalogues, lookbooks, and all printed collateral
- Direct e-commerce creative across our websites and marketplaces (Shopee, Lazada, Tokopedia, TikTok Shop) — banners, product imagery, landing pages, livestream visuals
- Develop in-store, POSM, and retail visual systems for both flagship spaces and partner stores
- Oversee packaging design and product launch assets in partnership with brand and product teams
- Direct video and motion content for social, e-commerce, and retail screens
- Manage and develop the in-house design team (initially 1–2 designers) and a network of freelancers and external agencies
- Partner with country marketing teams across Asia to localise creative without breaking brand consistency
- Build and maintain a structured brand asset library accessible across markets
Requirements
- 8–12 years of experience in design or art direction roles, including agency and/or in-house experience on brands with significant retail or e-commerce presence
- A portfolio that demonstrates strong typography, layout, photography direction, retouching standards, and visual systems thinking — across a consistent volume of work, not just one or two hero pieces
- Direct experience art-directing photoshoots end-to-end: brief, casting input, on-set direction, retouching brief and review
- Background in sportswear, fashion, retail, FMCG, or consumer e-commerce
- Hands-on proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma
- Working knowledge of After Effects (or comfort directing motion designers); familiarity with Lightroom or Capture One for photo workflows
- Strong project management instincts — able to run multiple campaigns, shoots, and deliverables in parallel without dropping quality
- Comfortable working with leadership that sets creative direction and gives clear input, and with the autonomy to translate that into execution at pace
- Fluent written and spoken English; cultural fluency in two or more of MY, ID, VN, SG is a plus
- Experience integrating AI tools (Midjourney, Firefly, Runway) into design and production workflows is a plus
- Based in or willing to relocate to Kuala Lumpur
