Company Description The Wave Clinic is a specialist residential treatment center dedicated to teenagers and young adults, with a strong focus on eating disorder programs and adolescent behavioral health. Located in a spectacular setting in Kuala Lumpur, the clinic offers a safe, personal space that supports reflection, growth, and community living within a high care therapeutic environment. Programs are individualized, medium to long term, and typically begin with a 12-week treatment plan designed to support progress in all areas of a young person's life. The Wave Clinic integrates education, including vocational, academic, and alternative pathways into tertiary education, into its treatment model. A resident psychiatric team, including a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and a resident nursing team, provides comprehensive clinical care, complemented by a Transitions House for those in sustained recovery from eating disorders.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Assistant Chef role based in Kajang. The Assistant Chef supports the Head Chef in planning, preparing, and presenting nutritious, appealing meals that align with clinical guidelines and individual dietary plans, particularly for young people in eating disorder and behavioral health programs. Daily responsibilities include food preparation, cooking, portioning, and plating, as well as maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen that complies with food safety and hygiene regulations. The role involves collaborating with clinical and nursing teams to adapt menus to specific nutritional needs, allergies, and cultural preferences, while promoting a positive and supportive dining experience. The Assistant Chef also assists with inventory control, receiving and storing supplies, and may help train or guide junior kitchen staff in best practices.

Qualifications

  • Professional culinary training, certification, or relevant on-the-job experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen.
  • Strong skills in food preparation, cooking techniques (including pastry), and menu execution, with an emphasis on balanced, nutritious meals.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and safe kitchen practices, including proper storage, handling, and sanitation.
  • Experience or genuine interest in working with young people, including those in behavioral health or eating disorder treatment settings, is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to follow dietary plans and guidelines set by clinical and nutritional teams, including managing allergies, intolerances, and special diets.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate respectfully with culinary, clinical, and residential staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to manage time and workload in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required by a residential care setting.
  • Commitment to non-judgmental, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive interactions with residents and colleagues.
