Role Overview
The Product Manager, Coatings specializes in the paint markets by promoting and selling raw materials. The role focuses on resins, pigments, additives, specialty solvents and cellulosic products for coating applications.
This role requires technical knowledge of coatings and applications to provide tailored solutions and technical support to clients within the paint market segments.
The measurement of success for this role includes meeting sales targets for existing and new customers (revenue, gross margin, product mix, etc.), ensuring customer satisfaction, and demonstrating behaviours aligned with Company's core values.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive new client acquisition and expand market share within the paints industry by promoting raw materials including resins, pigments, additives, specialty solvents and cellulosic products represented by our principals.
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers and key accounts within the coatings industry.
- Collaborate with the Technical Team and Product-Focused Sales Manager/Director to address technical issues and develop customized solutions for customers.
- Prepare quotations, technical proposals, sales reports and monitor sales performance against assigned targets.
- Plan and coordinate principals visits, including customer meetings, project follow-ups and technical discussions.
- Regularly visit existing and potential customers to introduce new products, expand business opportunities and resolve product-related issues.
- Monitor customer inventory requirements and ensure timely re-ordering and supply planning.
- Stay updated on market trends, competitor products and new developments in the coatings industry and share with the technical, internal sales and marketing teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related scientific/technical field.
- Minimum 35 years of sales or technical support experience in the paints industry.
- Possess technical understanding of coating raw materials and applications.
- Ability to travel as required.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in English; Mandarin is an added advantage.
- Ability to conduct product research, benchmarking and technical analysis.
- Familiarity with laboratory testing methods relevant to coating applications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
