Job Description

Job Purpose:

  • Position GEMA as a reliable and trustworthy source of global economic intelligence to executive management, internal business partners and stakeholders and customers.
  • Partner with senior executives to support them with Bank and business line strategic planning, advising them, and supporting activities such as risk management and annual profit planning.
  • Continually seek to enhance the Bank's economic intelligence products and services.
  • Develop and execute plans for providing timely strategic economic intelligence to executives, business partners, media, stakeholders and customers, including comprehensive economic, financial market, and regulatory research and forecasts
  • Work closely with Public, Corporate and Government Affairs to help build the Bank's brand, optimizing media exposure of the economics team, ensuring and monitoring appropriate coverage.
  • Manage reputational and compliance risk relative to research content and publications.
  • Establish a vision for the Economics Department in line with Bank's strategy and provide strategic direction to the team

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance the Bank's image by developing professional relationships with representatives of key media, government and not-for-profit organizations.
  • Support business line marketing by providing unique reports, presentations and material that showcase the Bank's capabilities.
  • Establish strong relationships with internal partners to identify opportunities in enhancing service delivery/quality of economic intelligence and helping them to meet their short and long term business objectives.
  • Work closely with Group Risk Management and Group Finance to enhance systemic stress testing & risk management, striving to improve the methodology and documentation of stress-testing exercises to meet business requirements.
  • Create and sustain relationships with bankers conducting economics research outside the department, tracking economic intelligence gathered throughout the bank, leveraging findings to build up economic intelligence and upholding high quality standards in research and publication, preserving the integrity of the economics function.
  • Maintain a robust network with other economists, researchers, government bodies, and industry specialists to gain insight and stay abreast of best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, or related degrees required.
  • Masters in Economics (or related subject) preferred

Relevant Work Experience

  • 5 - 7 years in macroeconomics or microeconomics, research and analysis, at least one year in a managerial capacity
