Job Description

Job Purpose

  • Responsible for overseeing Bank-wide General Ledger (GL), Bank and Nostro reconciliation activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of outstanding items. This includes monitoring reconciliation performance, reviewing GL balances and variances, and ensuring compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • The role supports management reporting, audit and regulatory engagements, risk governance, and transformation initiatives, while providing insights to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve the overall reconciliation process. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for developing team capabilities and supporting strategic and ad hoc departmental initiatives.
  • The position is responsible for the following:

L1 Operation & Analytics (Bank & Nostro)

  • Act as reviewer and approver for assigned operational processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with governing standards.
  • Oversee Bank and Nostro reconciliation activities to ensure transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled on a timely basis.
  • Review and analyse GL balances, reconciliation exceptions, aged items, and variances to identify issues, risks, and required actions.
  • Drive timely resolution of outstanding items through close engagement with Business Units and stakeholders, including escalation of critical issues where required.
  • Ensure reconciliation processes comply with internal policies, control requirements, accounting standards, and regulatory expectations.

Strategic Management Reporting

  • Prepare and review management reports, dashboards, KPIs, and reconciliation metrics for management and governance forums.
  • Perform trend analysis and provide insights on outstanding items, reconciliation performance, operational risks, and key issues.
  • Support data-driven decision making by providing meaningful analysis and recommendations to management.

Audit & Regulatory

  • Coordinate and manage internal and external audit engagements related to reconciliation processes and controls.
  • Ensure timely and quality responses to audit queries, findings, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and drive closure of audit issues and remediation actions to strengthen the control environment.

Transformation & Strategic Initiatives

  • Identify and leverage AI, automation, and data analytics capabilities to improve reconciliation processes, enhance controls, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Drive adoption of digital solutions to strengthen monitoring, reporting, issue management, and decision-making.

Risk Stewardship

  • Support CET, RCSA, procedural reviews, and control governance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and control standards.

People Management

  • Coach and develop team members while fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
  • Support performance management, training, and capability development.

Ad Hoc Support

  • Act as backup for BCIS-related responsibilities as required.
  • Support departmental projects, initiatives, and ad hoc assignments.

Job Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or Accounting Professional Qualification.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Skills in financial, planning & analysis, with more than 5 years of working experience in finance or relevant industry

Required Competencies and Skills

Technical/Functional skills

  • Good knowledge of banking systems, including Oracle and other financial systems.
  • Understanding of banking products, services, and operational processes.
  • Strong knowledge of General Ledger (GL), Bank, and Nostro reconciliations.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles, IFRS, and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) guidelines.
  • Ability to analyse financial data, identify variances, and investigate reconciliation issues.
  • Knowledge of risk, control, audit, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools.
