Contract Management & Compliance: Oversee and resolve legal matters related to all commercial contracts, including IT/Software agreements, ensuring adherence to company policies, governance, and ethical guidelines. This includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts.
Legal Advisory & Project Management: Provide expert legal advice to internal stakeholders, continually deepening understanding of business processes to enhance the quality of guidance. Manage country-specific legal and compliance projects to drive necessary changes and improvements.
Relationship Building: Foster strong, lasting relationships with both external legal advisors and the broader legal community to stay current on laws and best practices. Maintain excellent working relationships with internal company stakeholders.
Support & Database Management: Assist the Director of Legal for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei on various legal matters. Manage the internal legal contract database for the DKSH Group, including conducting training sessions for internal stakeholders on its use and general legal topics.
Intellectual Property & Litigation: Handle all trademark-related matters, including managing and tracking Group Trademarks and serving as the primary liaison with trademark solicitors. Advise on litigation and debt recovery actions, monitoring case statuses, and managing external counsel for litigation and corporate matters.
Legal Administration & Due Diligence: Manage administrative procedures related to business legal implications and oversee due diligence processes within the country to ensure a structured approach to legal management.
Legal Proceedings & Research: Prepare for key litigations and arbitrations, interacting with external legal counsel and representing the country in legal proceedings to protect DKSH's interests. Prepare and respond to court/legal documents and pleadings. Conduct legal research for assigned tasks and handle all other legal or ad-hoc matters as assigned.
Learning & Development: Drive and manage the legal team's learning and development in Corporate, Contract, and Commercial law, as well as DKSH behaviors, to achieve team and functional goals. Promote self-learning and continuous improvement in these areas.
Job Requirements
Education & Qualifications: Possess a Law Degree from a top-tier university in Malaysia or abroad and be qualified to practice law. Admission to the Malaysian Bar is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of six (6) years of legal experience, either practicing in a law firm with a business law focus or within the in-house legal department of an organization (ideally locally listed). Significant exposure and experience in the Healthcare, Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Performance Materials, and Technology industries are preferred. Extensive experience in legal management (e.g., organizing a legal service team, defining coverage and sourcing models, reporting, alternative billing methods, legal process outsourcing, and knowledge of relevant technology) is essential.
Knowledge & Skills: Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of the business and industry, as well as corporate law, contract and commercial law, and IT/Software-related law, including country-specific laws. Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required, with proficiency in other languages being an advantage. Must demonstrate appreciation and respect for cultural sensitivities in cross-country/culture interactions and possess the ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with integrity. Proficiency in office productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is necessary, along with knowledge of adapting law within the cultural and legal frameworks of Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei.
