Key responsibilities

  • Team & Operations Leadership
  • Lead and supervise Service Engineers (SEs) and Service Technicians (STs).
  • Oversee troubleshooting activities during machine downtime, guiding SEs on complex cases.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance work is executed effectively and on schedule.
  • Review downtime reports, root cause analyses, and maintenance logs.
  • Consolidate and report on ASM performance metrics (uptime %, MTTR, fault trends).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce recurring breakdowns
  • Automation Engineer/Controls & Systems Oversight
  • Monitor ASM integration stability between our in-house management system, SCADA and PLC
  • Perform first-line controls diagnostics (signal checks, error logs, I/O verification).
  • Liaise with vendors on PLC/logic issues, ensuring complete data/logs are provided.
  • Analyse ASM performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Vendor & Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Act as the bridge between SPX and vendor
  • Act as the Malaysia Centre Point of Contact between the Malaysia engineering team with Regional engineering teams based in Singapore and China for SPX Automatic Sorting Machines (ASM).
  • Validate vendor fixes, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Collaborate with Corp IT on system/network health and cybersecurity.
  • Support management with ASM performance insights for decision-making.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong foundation in mechanical and electrical systems (motors, conveyors, sensors).
  • Familiarity with automation systems (PLCs, industrial networks).
  • Good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Leadership experience managing technical/maintenance teams.
  • Strong vendor management and communication skills.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data, fault trends, and system logs.
  • Knowledge of OT cybersecurity best practices (preferred).

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Degree/Masters in Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronics, or Automation Engineering.
  • 5+ years experience in industrial automation, logistics automation, or manufacturing.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
  • Exposure to both hands-on troubleshooting and system-level diagnostics.
  • Experience with automated material handling systems (preferred).
