Step into the dynamic world of Equities within Market Securities Services Operations (MSSO), where innovation meets excellence. As part of our Kuala Lumpur team, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting our global Equities business, spanning Equity Derivatives and Prime Finance. Our middle office controls team is at the heart of operational integrity, managing trade validations, resolving intersystem discrepancies, reviewing documentation, overseeing life cycle controls and handling settlement queries. Here, you'll be empowered to make a real impact, working alongside diverse colleagues and stakeholders across continents.

The Opportunity

We're seeking a driven professional to join our specialist task force, responsible for post-trade support across Hong Kong, Europe, and the US. You'll manage critical activities including intersystem break investigations, trade validations, resolution of trade and settlement discrepancies, trade life cycle management, andstarting in 2026the Calculation Agent function within Middle Office Control. This role offers extensive exposure to traders, sales, structurers, and trading support, as well as traditional operations teams (confirmations, settlements, asset services, issuer services, and cash services). You'll primarily collaborate with European stakeholders, working European shifts with the flexibility for staggered hours.

What You'll Do

Primary Responsibilities:

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • Global Post-Trade Support : Oversee post-trade activities for Equity Derivatives, ensuring seamless operations and robust controls.
    • Act as Calculation Agent for Equity Structured Productscalculate, control, and issue notices to paying agents.
    • Validate and control structured derivatives products, including new trades, life cycle events, and corporate actions.
    • Manage queries and provide transaction support for derivatives and structured products.
    • Engage with a broad spectrum of stakeholders globally (Trading, Sales, Product Controls, Asset Services, Middle Office, Paying Agent, Structurers).
    • Produce daily, weekly, and monthly management information (MI) reports.
    • Escalate issues promptly to mitigate financial risk and safeguard client relationships.
    • Investigate and resolve intersystem breaks.
    • Operational Excellence : Maintain high standards of control, minimize incidents, and proactively identify and resolve financial risks in line with HSBC's guidelines.
    • Strategic Collaboration : Partner with global product heads to plan and execute migrations and projects, ensuring consistent procedures and building capability in Kuala Lumpur.
    • Continuous Improvement : Drive process enhancements and efficiency savings, conduct root cause analysis on recurring exceptions, and implement sustainable solutions.
    • Talent Development : Recruit and train local staff, develop training materials and programmes, and ensure specialist knowledge is retained and transferred effectively.
    • Change Management : Collaborate with IT to deliver both strategic and tactical change initiatives.

    Role

    What you will need to succeed in the role:

    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field (preferred).
    • 35 years experience in investment banking, with strong knowledge of derivatives; familiarity with equities and corporate actions is advantageous.
    • Prior middle office experience in Markets products is a plus.
    • Proficiency in Python and a solid understanding of AI technologies are highly desirable.
    • Experience in operations and people management is an asset.
    • Ability to thrive in a virtual team environment, supporting multiple functions and stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to resolve complex operational challenges and ensure regulatory compliance.
    • Flexibility in working hours to meet the demands of global financial markets.
    • Hands-on experience with on-shore and off-shore operating models.
    • Deep appreciation for operational risk, control, and exception management.
    • Proven ability to implement global initiatives and collaborate within a global management team.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build and manage relationships across local and international teams.
    • Meticulous attention to detail and a proactive, hands-on management style.
    • Team-oriented mindset, fostering connectivity and collaboration.
    • Fluent English (required); French language skills are a plus.
