Backend Engineering Manager

Experience & Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend development experience, with 3+ years leading engineering teams.
• Proven background in building and managing high-performing backend teams.
• Strong technical foundation in C# and .NET Core, microservices, and cloud infrastructure (especially AWS).
• Deep experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design, distributed systems, and systems scalability.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects, teams, or pods in an agile environment.
• Proficient in modern software development practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps collaboration.
• Excellent communication, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong sense of ownership, prioritization, and long-term strategic thinking.

Role & Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable and secure backend systems.
• Drive technical vision and ensure engineering standards align with business goals.
• Guide engineers in building robust microservices, designing APIs, and integrating with databases and messaging systems.
• Lead initiatives in performance tuning, system reliability, and technical debt reduction.

Team & People Management

• Manage and develop a team of backend engineers through mentoring, coaching, and feedback.
• Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Work closely with Product, Design, DevOps, and QA to ensure smooth delivery and alignment.
• Act as a technical liaison between backend teams and other engineering units (frontend, mobile, etc.).
• Translate product roadmaps into clear backend engineering deliverables.

Project Management & Delivery

• Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of key backend projects.
• Ensure on-time, high-quality releases, identifying risks early and navigating blockers.
• Monitor and report on backend health, velocity, and delivery metrics.

Security, Quality & Scalability

• Champion testing, monitoring, logging, and incident management best practices.
• Enforce high standards around data security, code quality, and compliance.
• Lead efforts to improve system performance and scalability as traffic and usage grow.

Desired Qualifications
