Batch Operation Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Batch Operations & Automation Engineer to support Business-as-Usual (BAU) operations and project activities across enterprise batch scheduling and file transfer platforms. The role will be responsible for batch job deployment, configuration, execution, monitoring, recovery, application deployment, and production support.

The engineer will work closely with application and infrastructure teams to design and implement batch solutions, improve operational efficiency through automation, and support critical production activities, including after-hours incidents, application deployments, platform patching, and project cutovers.

Key Responsibilities

Batch Operations & Production Support – 40% to 60%

• Provide BAU and project support for enterprise batch operation platforms, including ActiveBatch, GoAnywhere, Tectia, and similar technologies.
• Perform batch job deployment, scheduling, configuration updates, execution, monitoring, and recovery.
• Troubleshoot batch failures and production issues and coordinate with relevant application and infrastructure teams for resolution.
• Ensure all batch operations and support activities follow established processes, procedures, and operational standards.
• Maintain operational documentation and ensure batch changes are properly documented and implemented.

Batch Solution & Stakeholder Collaboration – 20% to 30%

• Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to understand batch requirements and propose appropriate solutions.
• Actively participate in technical and solution discussions related to batch scheduling, automation, and file transfer requirements.
• Provide technical recommendations to improve batch reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
• Support project teams in implementing and integrating batch solutions.

Automation & Operational Efficiency – 20% to 30%

• Leverage existing platform capabilities and automation tools to improve operational efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational tasks and reduce manual intervention.
• Develop and implement automation solutions to improve batch processing, monitoring, recovery, and operational workflows.
• Continuously evaluate platform capabilities and recommend improvements to existing processes.

Application Deployment Support – 10% to 20%

• Support application deployments across development, testing, and production environments.
• Coordinate deployment activities with application, infrastructure, and other technical teams.
• Support production implementation and post-deployment validation.
• Assist project teams during production cutover and implementation activities.

After-Hours & 24x7 Support

• Participate in the assigned duty roster and provide standby support outside normal working hours.
• Respond promptly to critical production incidents and participate in incident resolution.
• Support application deployments to production environments outside business hours.
• Perform or support platform patching activities across relevant environments.
• Provide technical support during project cutover and major implementation activities.
• Support critical service requests requiring after-hours intervention, subject to management approval.
• Some operational activities may require 24x7 support depending on business and production requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience in batch operations, batch scheduling, production support, or a similar IT operations role.
• Hands-on experience with ActiveBatch or similar enterprise workload automation/batch scheduling platforms.
• Experience with GoAnywhere or similar Managed File Transfer (MFT/SFTP) platforms.
• Experience with Tectia or similar secure file transfer technologies is advantageous.
• Working knowledge of Shell scripting, programming, or SQL.
• Good understanding of Windows, Unix, and Linux operating systems.
• Understanding of automation concepts and experience applying automation to IT operations.
• Experience in batch job deployment, configuration, execution, monitoring, troubleshooting, and recovery.
• Strong production support and incident management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with application, infrastructure, and project teams.

Education & Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Relevant IT certifications are preferred.
