Job Description

Job Title: BI data analyst

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Location: Penang, Malaysia

Key Responsibilities

  • Analytics Product Development
  • Design and develop reports and dashboards as long-living products
  • Translate business needs into analytical user stories
  • Build and maintain semantic models and analytical datasets
  • Ensure consistency of KPIs and business logic
  • Deliver readable, reusable, and maintainable BI assets
  • Data Quality, Reliability & Governance
  • Implement data quality controls (completeness, freshness, consistency)
  • Document indicators, calculation rules, and data lineage
  • Contribute to data and BI governance standards
  • Manage data security and access (RLS, Entra ID / security groups)
  • Engineering & Industrialization Practices
  • Apply software-inspired BI engineering practices (Git versioning, DEV/UAT/PROD environments, structured release and Go/No-Go processes)
  • Optimize performance (data modeling, DAX, query optimization)
  • Anticipate scalability and manage technical debt
  • Business Partnership & Collaboration
  • Work closely with business stakeholders (Finance, Sales, Supply Chain, R&D, etc.)
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Architects, and Data Scientists
  • Challenge requirements to ensure business value and analytical relevance
  • Participate in prioritization, roadmap, and delivery rituals
  • Run, Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Provide analytical support (incidents, anomalies, user questions)
  • Monitor adoption and usage of BI products
  • Continuously improve products based on feedback and usage analysis

Requirements

  • Bachelor/Master Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field
  • 4 to 5 years of experience in a BI / Analytics team, preferably in an industrial or complex business environment
  • Strong experience with SQL and relational database management systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and modern data platforms is a strong asset
  • Proven experience delivering production-grade BI solutions as a Power BI / Data Analyst or similar role
  • Strong expertise in Power BI, including advanced DAX and Power Query, with solid data modeling best practices
  • Solid foundations in statistics and data analysis (descriptive statistics, trend analysis, correlation, outlier detection)
  • Basic working knowledge of Python (e.g. pandas, numpy) for data analysis or validation use cases
  • Understanding of predictive or advanced analytics concepts (forecasting, segmentation, scoring), with the ability to collaborate with Data Scientists
  • Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to data quality and reliability
  • Clear, structured, and professional communication skills with both business and technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work autonomously, take ownership of deliverables, and collaborate effectively within a team
  • Fluency in English is mandatory
