Job Description

Working location: Malaysia | Type of employee: Full-time

Report to: Chairman | Level: Director

The Business Development Director is responsible for leading Emers Group's expansion into new markets and acquiring high-value strategic partners. This role defines market-entry strategies, drives new business opportunities, and delivers sustainable commercial growth for the Sport & Lifestyle portfolio across Malaysia and the region.

Some of the key responsibilities

Strategic Market Expansion

  • Lead comprehensive market assessments to identify new geographic, channel, and category opportunities.
  • Define market-entry strategies and long-term development plans aligned with regional and corporate objectives.
  • Oversee the end-to-end expansion process, from opportunity scouting and stakeholder engagement to negotiation and partner onboarding.

Strategic Partner & Client Acquisition

  • Identify and secure high-value partnerships with distributors, key accounts, and retail groups.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships to support long-term business growth.
  • Negotiate complex commercial agreements, ensuring alignment with Emers standards and maximizing long-term value.

Commercial Growth Leadership

  • Set commercial goals for new markets and steer execution toward sustainable revenue growth.
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and regional teams to ensure successful market activation and business scaling.
  • Provide strategic oversight of the business development pipeline

Business Insights & Reporting

  • Deliver structured market intelligence, performance analysis, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Monitor emerging trends, competitor activities, and risks to inform timely decision-making.
  • Report progress on expansion initiatives and commercial outcomes with clarity and executive rigor.

The Successful Talent

  • At least 8 years of senior experience in Business Development, Market Expansion, or Commercial Leadership, ideally within Sport, Lifestyle, Fashion, or Consumer Goods.
  • Demonstrated success in opening new markets and establishing strategic partnerships.
  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation capability, and executive-level relationship management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to operate independently, influence senior stakeholders, and drive results under ambiguity.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to support market expansion and partner engagements.
