Job Summary
The Business Excellence Manager is an 18-month contract role (opportunity for permanent conversion) established to support Motul Malaysia in strengthening commercial discipline, process effectiveness, operational governance, and business performance visibility.
Reporting to the Country General Manager, the role will act as a strategic project and process improvement partner to review, improve, and implement key business processes across the Malaysia business unit. Key focus areas include pricing management, distributor system management, commercial process improvement, business performance tracking, and cross-functional special projects.
The ideal candidate is commercially strong, analytical, structured, and hands-on, with the ability to work across functions, influence stakeholders, and convert business issues into clear actions and measurable improvements.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Business Process Review & Improvement
- Review key commercial and operational processes across the Malaysia business unit to identify gaps, inefficiencies, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Work with business functions to simplify, standardise, and improve key processes that support the Motul Malaysia business.
- Develop practical process improvement recommendations that support business efficiency, governance, and execution quality.
- Support adoption of improved processes by working closely with relevant functional teams.
Pricing Management & Commercial Governance
- Support the business in strengthening pricing management, pricing governance, and commercial decision-making.
- Review pricing structures, approval processes, price corridors, and commercial terms to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Analyse product mix, margin impact, customer segments, pricing deviations, and commercial risks.
- Provide recommendations to improve pricing discipline, margin visibility, and profitability management.
- Work with Sales, Finance, Marketing, and Regional stakeholders to support pricing-related analysis, implementation, and follow-through.
Distributor System & Route-to-Market Support
- Review and improve distributor-related systems, processes, and operating practices.
- Support distributor management processes, including performance tracking, data quality, system usage, and reporting discipline.
- Work with Sales and relevant stakeholders to improve visibility of distributor performance, coverage, activity, and execution.
- Support route-to-market analysis and distributor-related improvement projects where required.
- Identify process or system gaps that may affect distributor effectiveness and recommend practical improvements.
Commercial Performance Tracking & Business Scorecards
- Develop, maintain, and improve business tracking tools, dashboards, scorecards, and management reporting templates.
- Track relevant commercial KPIs, including sales performance, pricing effectiveness, margin trends, distributor performance, campaign or project outcomes, and operational progress.
- Consolidate data and information from different business functions and convert data into clear insights for management review.
- Provide structured analysis and recommendations to support business decision-making.
- Ensure reporting is timely, accurate, and useful for business performance discussions.
Cross-Functional Special Projects
- Lead or support special projects assigned by the Regional Business Unit and/or General Manager that improve business performance, process efficiency, or operational governance.
- Coordinate cross-functional project activities involving Sales, Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, Operations, Regional teams, and external partners where required.
- Define project objectives, timelines, deliverables, stakeholders, risks, and follow-up actions.
- Monitor project progress and ensure key milestones are tracked and delivered.
- Prepare project updates, management summaries, and recommendations for decision-making.
Commercial Excellence & Local Implementation
- Support the local implementation of regional commercial excellence guidelines, tools, standards, and best practices where relevant to Malaysia.
- Translate regional frameworks into practical local processes that fit Malaysia's business needs.
- Work with regional and local stakeholders to ensure alignment between strategy, process, execution, and reporting.
- Support adoption of commercial tools, systems, or process changes within the Malaysia business unit.
- Identify opportunities to improve commercial execution quality across channels and business pillars.
- Facilitate discussions across departments to resolve process gaps, improve collaboration, and ensure ownership of actions.
- Engage functional teams to understand business challenges, clarify priorities, and drive improvement actions.
Qualification and Experience Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Project Management, Commercial Management, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
- At least 5–8 years of relevant experience in business excellence, commercial operations, sales excellence, business process improvement, pricing, route-to-market, distributor management, commercial finance, or business transformation.
- Relevant professional certification in project management, process improvement, business analysis, change management, or commercial excellence would be advantageous.
- Experience in lubricants, automotive aftermarket, FMCG, industrial distribution, B2B, or related channel-based industries would be advantageous.
- Exposure to distributor management systems, sales force automation tools, CRM, ERP, business intelligence tools, or related commercial systems.
- Experience supporting pricing implementation, route-to-market projects, commercial terms, distributor processes, or margin improvement initiatives.
- Experience working with regional teams, cross-functional stakeholders, or in a matrix organisation would be advantageous.
- Strong experience in analysing business performance, commercial processes, pricing, margins, or operational KPIs.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects, coordinate stakeholders, and follow through on agreed deliverables.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, with the ability to prepare clear analysis, dashboards, management reports, and business presentations.
- Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate analysis, recommendations, and project updates clearly to business stakeholders.
