About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and commercially driven Buying Manager (Fresh – Non Halal) to lead the buying strategy and category performance for our Fresh Non Halal products. In this role, you will be responsible for developing category plans, managing supplier relationships, driving sales and profitability, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products that meet customer expectations. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to execute category strategies, optimize product assortment, and support the company's overall commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement category strategies to achieve sales, margin, and market share targets for the Fresh Non Halal category.
  • Manage the product assortment, pricing, promotions, and seasonal plans to maximize commercial performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate commercial terms, and identify new sourcing opportunities.
  • Monitor market trends, customer insights, competitor activities, and emerging products to enhance the category offering.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews to ensure product quality, service levels, cost efficiency, and compliance with company standards.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Merchandising, Operations, Marketing, and Central IM Support Team to ensure smooth product listings, accurate master data, and product availability.
  • Ensure product, cost, barcode, and supplier information is accurate and maintained within company systems.
  • Analyze sales performance, inventory levels, margins, and key business metrics to identify opportunities and implement improvement plans.
  • Drive promotional planning and category initiatives to achieve business objectives while maintaining profitability.
  • Manage and coach Buying Executives within the category, providing guidance, support, and performance development.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and all relevant legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Supply Chain, Retail Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of buying or category management experience in FMCG, retail, or supermarket industry, preferably within Fresh or Non Halal categories.
  • Proven experience in supplier negotiation, category planning, pricing strategy, and commercial management.
  • Strong analytical and commercial acumen with the ability to interpret sales and market data.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience leading or mentoring teams.
  • Good command of Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Mandarin to effectively communicate with suppliers and business partners.
  • Results-oriented, customer-focused, and passionate about delivering business growth through effective category management.
