Key Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical power plant or solar photovoltaic industry, with strong exposure to large-scale solar PV plant operations and have basic knowledge in lithium-based Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Training on BESS operations and maintenance with the technology provider will be provided
• Proven track record in managing electrical power plant, large scale solar power plant and/or hybrid (solar + BESS) operations, including O&M and team leadership.
• Strong technical expertise in solar PV systems, inverters, transformers, SCADA systems, EMS (Energy Management Systems), and grid integration.
• Well-versed in performance monitoring tools and plant optimization strategies.
• Experience in dealing with regulatory authorities, utilities, and external stakeholders is a must.
• Good understanding of grid codes, local regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Experience in managing budgets, contracts, and vendor performance is an added advantage.
• Possess minimum B0 certification from Suruhanjaya Tenaga
• Willing to be based at KLIA site.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

1. Plant Operations, Energy Management & Performance Management:

• Lead and manage the day-to-day and overall operations of the solar farm integrated with BESS, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.
• Prepare and manage annual Operation & Maintenance (O&M) activities for both solar PV and BESS systems, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
• Monitor and analyse plant's key performance indicators such as solar panel health, Performance Ratio (PR), plant availability, generation output, as well as battery performance metrics (SOC, SOH, Round Trip Efficiency, degradation, charge/discharge cycles) to optimize overall system performance, and to identify any performance gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Develop and execute energy dispatch and storage strategies to maximize revenue, achieve peak shaving requirement, grid stability, and operational efficiency.
• Coordinate with grid operators for energy dispatch and storage instructions
• Ensure full compliance with regulatory, statutory, environmental, and grid requirements, including those related to generation licensing and energy storage systems.
• Act as the primary liaison with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies e.g. Suruhanjaya Tenaga, CAAM, DOE etc., utilities, local authorities, and government agencies.
• Manage and oversee the operation of the Center of Excellence (COE) and visits by stakeholders, Client and visitors.

1. Maintenance & Asset Management

• Lead and manage contractual performance by contractors, OEMs, service providers, and BESS technology vendors, ensuring timely delivery of high quality contractual services and contractual compliance such warranty claims, defect liability claims and performance guarantees.
• Ensure adherence to OEM guidelines and warranty requirements
• Manage spare parts strategy and inventory
• Oversee plant upkeep activities such as landscaping, module cleaning, vegetation control, pest control and equipment inspections
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both solar and BESS operations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including digitalization, SCADA and EMS optimization, advanced monitoring systems, and asset lifecycle planning and replacement Capex decisions e.g. BESS augmentation, PV module replacement, and inverter warranty extension.

1. HSE Compliance:

• Champion Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) practices, with strong emphasis on high voltage operation and battery safety protocols, thermal risk management, and emergency response preparedness.
• Manage emergency response plans, especially for fire risks and BESS related hazards
• Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions

1. Commercial & Contract Management:

• Manage plant budgeting, petty cash, cost control, and resource planning to drive cost optimization and operational efficiency
• Prepare annual plant's Opex
• Ensure compliance with key agreements such as Solar Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA), Land Lease Agreement and BESS Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA).
• Support energy billing and environmental attribute reporting processes by other departments.
• Support project handover and transition from construction/commissioning to full commercial operations, including BESS integration.

1. Leadership & Stakeholder Management

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing operations team, including engineers, technicians, and support staff.
• Manage operational staff shift and rotation
• Manage annual KPI review for the operational staff
• Coordinate closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors for maintenance, system upgrades, and troubleshooting across solar and BESS assets.
• Lead and manage audits, inspections, and reporting requirements, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.

1. Reporting:

• Prepare and present operational reports, performance analysis, annual Opex budget and improvement plans to senior management, Board of Directors and shareholders.
