Job Description

The Chargeman (AO) is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and supervision of High Voltage (HV) electrical installations up to 33kV, including associated Low Voltage (LV) systems. The role ensures all electrical activities comply with the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) regulations, company standards, and statutory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and supervise high voltage (up to 33kV) and low voltage electrical installations in accordance with the scope of the AO license.
  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of switchboards, transformers, switchgears, MCCs, and distribution systems.
  • Ensure all works are performed in compliance with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) and Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) regulations.
  • Conduct daily inspection, monitoring, and testing of HV/LV systems to ensure safe operation and minimal downtime.
  • Identify electrical faults, perform troubleshooting, and implement corrective actions effectively.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate maintenance records, logbooks, and inspection reports for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Supervise and monitor electrical contractors and ensure works are executed safely and to specification.
  • Implement Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) and other safety procedures during maintenance or isolation of power sources.
  • Support energy management initiatives, including monitoring energy consumption and identifying efficiency opportunities.
  • Participate in internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to technicians to maintain safety and operational excellence.
  • Respond to electrical emergencies or breakdowns promptly to minimize disruption to production
  • Valid Chargeman AO Certificate of Competency issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission).

Job Requirement

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical operation and maintenance of high voltage systems (up to 33kV).
  • Strong technical knowledge of HV/LV systems, transformers, switchgears, and control circuits.
  • Familiar with Electricity Supply Act 1990, Electrical Regulations 1994, and MS IEC standards.
  • Knowledge in EHS procedures, LOTO systems, and risk assessment processes.
  • Able to interpret single-line diagrams (SLD) and electrical schematics.
  • Good communication and reporting skills with the ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Willing to be on standby or on-call duty, and work overtime, weekends, or public holidays when required.
