Job Description

As the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of a digital bank, your primary responsibility is to oversee and manage all aspects of risk within the organization, ensuring the bank operates in a safe and compliant manner in the digital landscape. Your job is crucial in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that can impact the bank's financial stability, reputation, and regulatory compliance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management strategy for the digital bank, aligning it with the bank's overall objectives and risk appetite. This involves understanding the unique risks associated with operating in a digital environment and establishing effective risk management practices.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize risks specific to digital banking operations. Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and areas of concern. Establish risk monitoring systems and processes to track risk exposure and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices governing digital banking.
  • Establish and enforce governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure effective risk management across the organization. Implement strong internal control mechanisms, including segregation of duties and regular reporting to senior management and the board of directors.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and action plans to address identified risks. Collaborate with relevant departments, such as IT, CISO, operations, legal, and compliance, to implement risk controls, business continuity plans, and procedures.
  • Foster a strong risk-aware culture within the organization by promoting risk management principles and providing regular training and awareness programs to employees. Encourage a proactive approach to risk identification and escalation.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with senior management, the board of directors, regulators, auditors, and other stakeholders. Provide risk-related insights, reports, and recommendations to support decision-making processes and maintain transparency
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and market developments that may pose new risks to the digital banking sector. Assess the potential impact of these risks on the bank's operations and develop appropriate strategies to mitigate them.
  • Continuously review and enhance risk management frameworks, policies, and processes to adapt to changing regulatory requirements and industry standards. Stay updated on industry best practices and leverage technological advancements to enhance risk management capabilities

Job Requirements & Criteria:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in finance, economics, business administration, risk management, or a related field is often required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM) or Financial Risk Manager (FRM) can be beneficial
  • Extensive experience in risk management, preferably in the financial services industry, with a focus on digital banking or technology-driven financial services.
  • Proven track record of implementing effective risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in working with regulatory authorities and managing relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of digital banking operations, financial products, and services, as well as associated risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to risk management in the digital banking sector.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies, risk modeling, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies, trends, and risks impacting the digital banking landscape, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, and open banking.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, assess, and mitigate risks effectively.
  • Strong leadership and management skills to lead risk management teams and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills to articulate complex risk concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to make informed decisions under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to align risk management strategies with the digital bank's overall objectives, risk appetite, and long-term growth plans.
  • Sound business judgment and the ability to balance risk and reward while supporting business initiatives.
  • Understanding of the competitive landscape and market dynamics of the digital banking industry.
