Our client is a renowned data center developer and operator. They are currently seeking a C&S Design Manager to join their team. This role will be based in Johor Bahru.
Job Responsibilities
- Structural Design Leadership & Project Delivery: Spearhead conceptual and detailed structural design development for data centre projects across Malaysia, including feasibility studies, engineering assessments, and cost optimisation initiatives. Oversee external design consultants to ensure timely delivery of quality design documentation and provide technical guidance during construction.
- Design Governance & Engineering Excellence: Evaluate and approve detailed engineering designs, shop drawings, and technical submissions from contractors. Support tendering activities through technical assessments and bid evaluations while driving value engineering and design enhancements across multiple disciplines.
- Regulatory Compliance & Authority Engagement: Serve as the key technical representative for interactions with Malaysian regulatory bodies, including local councils and fire authorities. Ensure all structural designs meet applicable building regulations, statutory requirements, and industry standards.
- Multidisciplinary Project Coordination: Collaborate closely with architectural, MEP, geotechnical, and construction teams to address technical challenges and site-related issues. Oversee structural inspections, testing, commissioning activities, and project close-out processes, including technical documentation and change management.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Project Alignment: Facilitate effective communication among consultants, clients, contractors, suppliers, and government agencies across Southeast Asia to ensure project objectives, timelines, and quality expectations are achieved.
Job Requirements
- Academic & Professional Credentials: Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline. Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) is advantageous.
- Relevant Experience: At least 8 years of experience in structural engineering and project execution within Malaysia or the wider Southeast Asian region. Demonstrated expertise in delivering large-scale data centre, industrial, manufacturing, logistics, or warehouse developments. Experience in structural rehabilitation, retrofitting, or strengthening projects is an added advantage.
- Engineering Knowledge: Proven capability in developing structural concepts and detailed engineering designs for major industrial facilities. Strong technical background in reinforced concrete, steel structures, deep foundations, retaining systems, basements, and geotechnical applications. Familiarity with construction methodologies and materials commonly adopted in Malaysia.
- Standards & Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of Malaysian engineering standards and international design codes, including Eurocodes, British Standards, and American standards. Knowledge of local authority approval procedures and engineering submission processes is essential.
- Technical Systems & Tools: Competent in structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAFE, STAAD.Pro, and drafting/BIM platforms including Revit and AutoCAD. Exposure to BIM coordination and digital engineering environments is highly desirable.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Passion for delivering mission-critical infrastructure projects in a fast-paced environment. Strong stakeholder management, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multicultural and international teams. Proficiency in English is required; additional language capabilities in Bahasa Malaysia and/or Mandarin would be beneficial.
