A. Supervision

  • Assess and identify students needs and experiences required in consultation with the Tutors in-charge of the ward.
  • Assists Tutors to plan daily assignments of student nurses in accordance with clinical learning objectives prepared by the college.
  • Teach and supervise student nurses and junior staff nurses.
  • Sign clinical recording book and log book when student nurses demonstrate competency in skills.
  • Conduct structured clinical teaching at the clinical areas e.g. bedside teaching, nursing rounds, nursing conference and case study.
  • Act as a resource person and provide incidental teaching and supervision to all levels of staff and student nurses.
  • Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and relatives.
  • Provide health education to patients and relatives whenever applicable.
  • Ensure students clinical learning objectives are achieved in the clinical area.

B. Academic

  • Participate in practical examination (OSCE) of student nurses when required.
  • Co-ordinate with Tutors and ward sister in evaluating the clinical performance of student nurses.
  • Conduct ward orientation for all student nurses according to orientation checklist.
  • To assist 3rd year student nurses in role transition.
  • Record and report anecdotal incidences to Tutor in-charge to Tutor.
  • Report ward incidences relating to student nurses to Tutor.
  • Check and mark reflective journals of student nurses.
  • Appraise student nurses under his/her supervision via clinical evaluation tool.
  • Participate in learning activities that are conducted in the College of Nursing to enhance clinical skills of student nurses.

C. Administrative

  • Maintain proper records for clinical teaching activities.
  • Ensure clinical attendance of student nurses are checked and signed accordingly.
  • Maintain student's incidental records and pass it to the college accordingly.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement programs and implement new approaches to enhance work process.
  • Participate / conduct meetings as or when required.
  • Play a major role in linking and bridging the gap between theory and practice.
  • Communicate effectively with Tutor in-charge of the ward to ensure students learning outcomes in the clinical area are achieved.

Requirements:

  • A registered nurse with current Annual Practicing Certificate.
  • A basic diploma in nursing.
  • A post basic certificate if supervising in specialized area.
  • Min. 3 years of working experience in related specialty.
