Wavemaker Impact is building the next-generation consumer platform for homeowners in Malaysia. We aren't just looking for a manager; we need a founder-minded operator who can take a high-stakes consumer tech venture from zero to traction in months.
As the first hire, you are the architect of the business. You'll design the playbook, acquire the first cohort of users, and unlock the financing partnerships that turn expensive home upgrades into accessible, day-one value for Malaysian families. You won't just be running operations—you'll be creating a new category in the Malaysian consumer market.
What You'll Do
- Own the Launch: Build and execute a go-to-market strategy targeting Malaysian homeowners. You'll be responsible for proving product-market fit through rapid experimentation and data-driven pivots.
- Drive Consumer Adoption: Lead the full B2C sales cycle. You will personally sign the first 100 customers and build the referral flywheel that transforms early adopters into your most effective sales force.
- Architect the Financing: Identify and negotiate with consumer lenders, banks, or BNPL providers. You will design the financial products that remove the sticker shock of home improvements, making positive cashflow a reality for the consumer from day one.
- Scale the Ecosystem: Recruit and manage a network of high-quality service providers and installers. You own the end-to-end customer experience, from the first click to the final installation and beyond.
- Build the A-Team: Hire, lead, and coach the founding team across sales, marketing, and customer success.
- Master the Unit Economics: Own the P&L. You'll need to balance rapid growth with sustainable unit economics, ensuring the business is ready for institutional scaling.
Who You Are
- The Category Creator: You have successfully sold a product or service the market didn't realize it needed yet. Whether it was a new fintech model or a disruptive D2C brand, you have the data to prove you can shift consumer behavior.
- The Malaysian Market Expert: 8–15 years of experience in consumer tech, fintech, or high-growth D2C operations within Malaysia. You understand the local nuances of trust, credit, and household decision-making.
- Financially Savvy: You have experience with consumer credit products (Hire Purchase, Mortgages, or BNPL) as a commercial owner or product designer. You know exactly why consumers say no to good financial offers and how to reframe the value proposition to get a yes.
- A Frontline Leader: You've built and managed field sales or boots on the ground teams in environments where trust is the primary product.
- Accountable & Resilient: You have started something before—either your own company or a new business unit—where you were personally responsible for its survival.
- Locally Rooted: Currently based in or immediately relocatable to Malaysia.
