Job Description

A leading multinational organisation in Petaling Jaya is seeking a Commercial Finance Manager to play a pivotal role in driving financial performance and supporting strategic business decisions. This is an exceptional opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys working closely with business leaders and thrives in a collaborative, high-growth environment. The successful candidate will act as a trusted partner to the sales organisation, providing critical financial insights, leading commercial analysis, and strengthening overall financial governance. With significant exposure to regional stakeholders and involvement in group-wide initiatives, this position offers a clear pathway to future leadership roles, including the potential to step into a Head of Finance position within two to three years. Flexible working opportunities, ongoing training, and the chance to work alongside knowledgeable colleagues make this an outstanding career move for those looking to make a tangible impact while developing their own skills.

  • Work directly with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to influence key commercial decisions and drive business growth through robust financial analysis and data-driven recommendations.
  • Gain exposure to regional projects and group-wide initiatives, enhancing your professional network and broadening your experience across multiple business areas.
  • Benefit from flexible working opportunities, comprehensive training programmes, and a supportive team environment that encourages personal growth and prepares you for future leadership positions.

What you'll do:

As a Commercial Finance Manager based in Petaling Jaya, you will be at the heart of the organisation's efforts to enhance financial performance through close collaboration with both local sales teams and regional stakeholders. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you acting as a strategic advisor-delivering insightful analyses on pricing models, margins, ROI calculations, project profitability assessments, and broader market trends. You will facilitate monthly performance reviews with key functional leaders while also providing recommendations that directly impact sales strategy. In addition to managing core financial planning cycles such as budgeting and forecasting, you will oversee essential controlling activities like general ledger reviews and variance analysis. Your remit extends beyond traditional finance functions; you'll play an integral part in supporting major projects (including leasing arrangements or data centre investments), contributing to group-wide initiatives (such as internal control rollouts), and ensuring compliance standards are met throughout. Regular engagement with senior leadership will allow you to justify your recommendations confidently while influencing outcomes that benefit the wider business. Working alongside a diverse team-including supervisors, admin support staff, AR/credit controllers, finance analysts, and project finance specialists-you'll help foster an environment where knowledge sharing is encouraged and everyone works together towards shared goals.

  • Partner closely with the Sales team to provide actionable financial insights that support commercial strategies and drive overall business performance.
  • Conduct detailed analyses on pricing structures, profit margins, return on investment, project profitability, and emerging business trends to inform decision-making processes.
  • Prepare and lead monthly performance reviews with functional leaders, ensuring transparency around results and identifying areas for improvement or optimisation.
  • Deliver data-driven recommendations that shape sales strategies and underpin key commercial decisions across the organisation.
  • Lead all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting cycles, ensuring accuracy and alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Oversee controlling activities such as general ledger review, variance analysis, and management reporting to maintain strong financial discipline.
  • Ensure robust internal controls are in place by maintaining audit readiness and compliance across all finance-related processes.
  • Support the financial aspects of leasing projects, data centre initiatives, risk forecasting, and other strategic investments within the business.
  • Contribute actively to corporate projects including internal control system rollouts, tax invoice projects, audit activities, and process improvements.
  • Engage regularly with senior leadership-including Regional Finance teams and Country General Managers-to challenge assumptions constructively and influence positive business outcomes.

What you bring:

To excel as a Commercial Finance Manager in this dynamic environment, you will bring not only technical expertise but also proven experience collaborating across departments within large-scale organisations. Your background should include substantial exposure to FP&A processes along with hands-on involvement in commercial finance or business partnering roles-ideally gained within industries known for their rapid pace of change. Experience supporting sales finance operations or overseeing project controlling activities will set you apart from other candidates. Your ability to engage thoughtfully with stakeholders at all levels-challenging ideas where appropriate while remaining considerate of differing perspectives-will be crucial for building trust-based relationships that drive results. Advanced proficiency in SAP systems coupled with strong Excel skills ensures you can navigate complex data landscapes efficiently. A willingness to immerse yourself in operational realities by joining field engagements further highlights your dedication to truly understanding how finance supports broader organisational goals. Above all else, your excellent interpersonal communication style fosters collaboration among colleagues from diverse backgrounds while enabling you to present compelling recommendations during key meetings.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required; professional qualifications such as ACCA are considered advantageous for this role.
  • Demonstrated experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Finance Business Partnering or Commercial Finance within complex organisations is essential.
  • Proven track record supporting sales finance functions or project controlling activities-particularly within fast-paced industries such as FMCG, Oil & Gas (O&G), or similar sectors-is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills are necessary; you should be comfortable engaging with senior leaders across functions while constructively challenging assumptions when needed.
  • Strong analytical abilities combined with meticulous attention to detail enable you to manage complex datasets effectively while delivering meaningful insights.
  • Advanced systems knowledge-especially proficiency in SAP-and strong Excel capabilities are required for success in this position.
  • Willingness to participate in field engagement activities (such as ride-alongs with commercial teams) demonstrates your commitment to understanding the business firsthand.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills ensure effective collaboration within cross-functional teams as well as clear presentation of findings during performance reviews.
