Job Description

Job Summary

The Mechanic I is responsible for carrying out preventive maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and servicing of commercial vehicles in accordance with the manufacturer's standards and company procedures. The role ensures vehicles are maintained in a safe, reliable, and roadworthy condition while delivering quality workmanship and meeting productivity targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and servicing on commercial vehicles.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
  • Repair and replace defective components, including engine, transmission, clutch, brake, steering, suspension, cooling, fuel, and exhaust systems.
  • Carry out repair and maintenance work on trucks, buses, and other commercial vehicles according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and identify additional repair requirements.
  • Conduct road tests before and after repairs when required.
  • Complete repair orders, inspection reports, and service documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and workshop facilities are properly maintained and used safely.
  • Follow all workshop safety procedures, environmental regulations, and housekeeping standards (5S).
  • Communicate repair findings and progress to the Workshop Supervisor or Service Advisor.
  • Support emergency breakdown repairs when assigned.
  • Assist in mentoring junior mechanics, apprentices, or trainees when required.
  • Participate in technical training and continuously improve technical knowledge and skills.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management within the scope of the position.

Requirements

Education

  • Certificate (SKM Level 2/3), Diploma (DKM), or equivalent qualification in Automotive Technology, Commercial Vehicle Technology, Heavy Equipment, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 4–5 years of experience in servicing and repairing commercial vehicles, trucks, or buses.
  • Experience with diesel engines and commercial vehicle systems is preferred.

Knowledge

  • Commercial vehicle maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Diesel engine systems.
  • Transmission and driveline systems.
  • Brake, steering, and suspension systems.
  • Electrical and electronic diagnostic systems.
  • Workshop safety procedures and quality standards.

Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and wiring diagrams.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good time management and attention to detail.
