Role Synopsis / Job Profile Summary

Commodity Risk is a key strategic control function within bp's Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) organization. As a Commodity Risk Manager, you will serve as the primary interface for trading and supply teams, overseeing daily activities that fulfil the team's core mandate: delivering independent daily exposure and P&L, ensuring data integrity, and providing robust analytical insights including working capital and cash analytics.

This role plays a critical part in safeguarding bp's risk framework, enabling commercial insight, and supporting strategic decision-making across global trading operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver highquality, insightful, helpful, and automated management information to partners.
  • Bring transparency to deal structures and articulate financial impacts in clear, operational terms.
  • Independently understand trading strategies and identify, call out, and mitigate financial, operational, and reputational risk.
  • Ensure timely validation and accurate representation of new business deals in relevant systems.
  • Validate and analyze market prices and curves, resolving discrepancies with bench analysts promptly.
  • Maintain market data integrity including price series, forward curves, pricing calendars, and expiry tables.
  • Ensure accurate independent execution of exchangerelated activities, including risk analysis of exchange trades and forecasting of cash requirements.
  • Work closely with finance, risk, and front-office teams to resolve discrepancies related to counterparty data, pricing, volume, and MTM intent.
  • Validate deallevel MTM, exposure, and P&L.
  • Accurately validate, monitor, and lead ancillaries and related P&L daily, troubleshooting and resolving issues as needed.
  • Partner with global teams and ensure smooth handovers between regions.
  • Support regional and global process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with ST&S policies including Market Risk, Commodity Risk, and Delegation of Authority.
  • Support ad hoc reporting and analysis requirements.
  • Lead and develop a small team of analysts, providing daytoday guidance and coaching.
  • Drive process and operational transformation while maintaining strong risk and control field.

Essential Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Actuarial Science, Engineering, Economics, or related fields.

Essential Experience & Job Requirements

  • 815 years of experience in finance, risk, or related fields.
  • Strong ability to identify risk mitigation strategies and support commercial decisionmaking.
  • Confirmed experience analyzing exposures and contributing strategically within finance or risk teams.
  • Deep understanding of the external market environment and its implications on business risk.
  • Ability to assess and advise on operational risk exposure and mitigation.
  • Programming skills and familiarity with energy trading markets and instruments are strong advantages.

Desirable Criteria

  • Background in product control or risk management within commodity trading or derivative markets.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring a team.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and adapt to agile ways of working.
  • Excellent communication skills to build strong relationships with ST&S and Finance/BPT stakeholders.
