Communications & Creative Coordinator (fresh graduates welcome)

Salary Range: RM 1,700 – RM 2,500 (Commensurate with experience)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Job Type: Full-time

Fugee School, established in 2009, is at the heart of this mission; created to ensure that no child is denied access to education due to their refugee status.

Job Summary:

The Communications & Creative Coordinator is the visual and narrative voice of Fugee. You are responsible for capturing the heart of our work through video, photography, and professional storytelling. Your role also involves mentoring and managing our refugee community contributors, ensuring their stories are told with dignity, impact, and a high standard of creative excellence. You move the brand from making posts to making moves through compelling multimedia narratives, and are passionate about using creative talents to help others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visual Content Production: Lead the end-to-end production, filming & editing of videos and photography for events, social media and reports. Ensure all digital and print assets (flyers, brochures) are on-brand and meet Fugee's visual standards.
  • Storytelling & Writing: Interview students, scholarship recipients, and community members to write compelling human-interest stories, blog posts, and website features. Ensure all storytelling adheres to ethical guidelines, focusing on strength and agency.
  • Community Content Program: Manage, mentor, and act as the primary editor for writers/content creators from the refugee community. Guide their creative process and polish their work for publication.
  • Social Media Execution & Engagement: Transform the department's strategy into visually stunning social media posts. Manage daily community engagement by responding to comments and inquiries via email and social media platforms.
  • Public Relations (PR) & Media: Maintain up-to-date media lists and assist the Manager in preparing press kits. Draft, proofread, and distribute press releases to relevant media outlets. Assist in coordinating media visits and responding to press inquiries.
  • Asset Management: Maintain an organised Media Center (Google Drive) for easy team access to high-quality assets and manage the Brand Manual.

  • Creative Storytelling: A natural ability to find the heart of a story and tell it in a way that inspires action while maintaining dignity & espect for the refugee community.
  • Empathetic Mentorship: The ability to coach non-professional writers and creators, giving constructive feedback that empowers.
  • Multimedia Technical Skills: High proficiency in video editing (e.g., Premiere Pro, CapCut) and graphic design (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite).
  • Strong Writing & Interviewing: The capacity to extract meaningful insights from interviews and translate them into polished, professional copy.
  • Attention to Detail: A sharp eye for aesthetics, grammar, and brand consistency.
  • Adaptability: The ability to move quickly between different environments.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Creative Media, Film Production, or a related field.
  • Experience: Fresh graduates are welcome to apply; 1 year of experience in a creative agency or NGO setting is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: - Strong portfolio in Photography and Video Editing (Premiere Pro/CapCut).

- Proficiency in Graphic Design (Canva/Adobe).

- Familiarity with social media management and community engagement.

  • Language: Excellent command of written and spoken English. Proficiency in a second language (Bahasa Malaysia/Arabic/Somali/etc) is a plus.
