About The Role
The
Configuration & Asset Data Governance Lead is accountable for establishing, governing, and continuously improving a trusted Configuration and Asset Data capability that underpins service stability, change risk management, incident resolution, and business impact visibility.
The role owns CMDB and Asset Data Governance, defining data standards, quality rules, lifecycle controls, and service relationship models, while execution is delivered through ServiceNow Discovery, integrations, and vendor operations. Operating within a multi‑vendor SIAM model, this role ensures configuration and asset data is accurate, complete, and fit for purpose across global IT services.
This position transforms configuration and asset data from a static repository into a strategic operational asset, enabling better decision‑making, reduced service risk, improved change outcomes, and faster incident recovery.

Job Responsibilities
Governance & Scope
- Own rules: Manage CMDB framework, policies, and model.
- Fix quality: Set rules for data ownership, life steps, and missing info.
- Set scope: Define what goes in CMDB based on services and laws.
Lifecycle & Compliance
- Track assets: Oversee CIs from onboarding to retirement.
- Link changes: Force change requests to update asset data.
Discovery & Mapping
- Run scans: Oversee ServiceNow discovery and fix gaps.
- Map services: Automate mapping for core business services.
Risk & Operations
- Cut risk: Help find root causes and spot change risks.
- Speed up fixes: Use clean data to resolve incidents faster.
Vendor Management
- Hold accountable: Make vendors keep asset data accurate.
- Review performance: Check data health during vendor reviews.
AI & Automation
- Prep for AI: Keep data clean for AI mapping and risk tools.
- Set AI guardrails: Stop AI updates from breaking audit rules.
Job Requirements
Required Work Experience
- Minimum 6–8 years of experience in Configuration Management, Asset Management, or IT Service Management roles.
- Demonstrated experience improving CMDB or asset data quality in large or complex IT environments.
- Proven experience working with ServiceNow CMDB and Discovery in a production environment.
- Experience working with managed service providers and global vendors.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- ITIL Foundation (mandatory).
- ServiceNow CMDB / Discovery certification (desirable).
Travel / Rotation Requirements
- Minimal; occasional travel may be required (up to 5%).
Skills Required
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Strong expertise in CMDB, configuration, and asset data governance within IT service environments.
- Proven experience defining and enforcing data quality standards and lifecycle controls.
- Solid working knowledge of ServiceNow CMDB, Discovery, and Service Mapping concepts.
- Strong understanding of the role of configuration data in Change, Incident, and Problem Management.
- Ability to analyse data dependencies and identify service and operational risk.
- Strong vendor governance and influencing skills without direct authority.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills, translating data issues into operational impact.
- Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to think at service and system level.
- Working knowledge of ITIL Configuration Management practices.
