Controls Engineer

Position Title: Controls Engineer Data Center Project

Position Summary:

My client, a leading Project Management Consultancy (PMC) in the data center sector, is seeking a Controls Engineer to support a major data center project in Shah Alam. The successful candidate will play a key role in controls system execution, commissioning, and construction oversight, ensuring systems are installed and implemented according to project requirements and best practices.

This is ideal for an engineer with 34 years of experience in data center or mission-critical facilities, who understands the construction process, can coordinate with contractors, and ensure all controls systems function reliably and comply with standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Construction & Implementation Support:

• Oversee installation and construction of controls systems (BMS, PLC, SCADA, HVAC, fire & life safety, electrical distribution).
• Ensure systems are installed according to project specifications, statutory codes, and PMC guidelines.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and site teams to resolve technical and construction-related issues.

System Commissioning & Testing:

• Support factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and commissioning activities.
• Monitor system performance during commissioning, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions.

Documentation & Compliance:

• Prepare and maintain installation checklists, as-built documentation, and operation manuals.
• Ensure compliance with data center Tier standards, safety codes, and construction guidelines.

Coordination & Stakeholder Management:

• Liaise with PMC project managers, site engineers, and subcontractors to ensure timely and compliant system implementation.
• Provide technical input for risk assessments, quality checks, and change management during construction.

Design Input:

• Review and provide feedback on controls design and sequences to ensure they are practical for construction and integration.
• Support handover of systems from design to site teams.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Control Engineering.

Experience: Minimum 34 years in controls engineering for data center, mission-critical, or industrial facilities.

Technical Skills:

• Hands-on experience with BMS, PLC, SCADA, and building automation systems.
• Strong understanding of controls integration during construction and commissioning.
• Familiarity with wiring, cabling, panels, sensors, and actuators in a site environment.

Knowledge:

• Understanding of construction sequencing, installation practices, and commissioning workflows.
• Awareness of data center Tier standards, redundancy concepts, and safety regulations.

Soft Skills: Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills; ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.

Contract & Availability: Immediate availability preferred; 1-year renewable contract.
