We are seeking a Data & Business Intelligence Engineer to drive the design, development, and implementation of the company's first unified Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse framework. This role is crucial as the organization transitions from siloed systems to a holistic, enterprise-wide data ecosystem spanning Geospatial Survey, Subsea Cable Operations, Maintenance, and other business functions.
The ideal candidate understands the end-to-end lifecycle of data from extraction and transformation, to warehousing and analytics and can deliver actionable insights for management. This role also supports the broader IT team as needed, operating within a lean but high-impact IT department.
What you'll be doing:
Data Engineering & ETL / ELT Development
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for multiple operational and internal data source.
- Automate data ingestion from offshore systems, portals, and third-party tools.
- Ensure data quality, lineage, and documentation standards are met.
- Support ETL middleware and integration across multiple systems.
Data Warehouse & Repository Architecture
- Lead the development of a scalable enterprise Data Warehouse.
- Build structured data models for analytics, reporting, and decision-making.
- Ensure architecture is adaptable, cloud-compatible, and multi-project ready.
- Support schema design, integration, and long-term data management strategies.
Business Intelligence & Analytics
- Establish BI governance and best practices for dashboards and reporting.
- Collaborate with leadership to define KPIs and build actionable dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, or internal tools).
- Promote data-driven decision-making across business units.
Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead BI implementation projects and track progress against timelines.
- Work closely with stakeholders across marine, survey, project delivery, and finance.
- Provide technical input for special projects and process improvements.
Cross Functional IT Support
- Support general IT operations as required.
- Assist with integrations involving cloud/on-prem or vessel infrastructure.
- Contribute to tech evaluations, procurement, and IT system improvements
- Maintain cybersecurity awareness for sensitive data handling.
What you'll need:
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, or related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in ETL/ELT development, data modeling, and data warehouse design.
- Strong SQL skills; familiarity with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
- Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik); Python or ETL frameworks a bonus
- Good understanding of data governance, lineage, and best practices.
- Exposure to geospatial or operational data is an added advantage.
- Strong analytical mindset, problem-solving skills, and stakeholder communication.
- Able to work independently and collaborate cross-functionally.
Salary Range: RM 11,000 - RM 13,000
